Backstory: 

DH and I have been doing triathlon for quite some time.  He worked his way up from the sprint distances to doing a full Ironman within one year.  He has since completed 8 Ironmans.

Well, two years ago he decided that the Ironman distance wasn't doing it for him anymore, so he was going to do a Double Iron (4.8mi swim, 224 mi bike, 52.4 mi run) in Virginia in Oct of '09.  He trained and trained for it.  He went to race and finished the swim, bike and 16 miles of the run before he fell violently ill.  He didn't complete it.

We had a baby, and not a month later he tells me there is a new Double Iron in Tampa in March (this year).  I was leary at first with all the training and having a new baby, but I knew he needed to do it to prove to himself that he could.

Went to the race in March with intentions of just finishing.  Well...just finishing turned into third place overall in a time of 24h37m!!

I am so proud of him and now he's looking at doing the triple in October in VA (Lake Anna).  He's going with intentions of winning it.

I absolutely love the dedication and determination this man has.

I'm training for my first sprint tri. I cannot imagine the stamina, determination, and mental strength it takes to finish a double Ironman. That's incredible and you have every right to be proud!!
