This is what I thought. But I wondered how it knew to find its way back down after pregnancy to lie perfectly centered between the fallopian tubes again without anything getting in the way?

Our obdies are truly amazing things.
It shrinks slowly, much like it grew slowly. That's why women leave the hospital after giving birth looking like they're still 5-6 months pregnant.
As for the "popping" of the uterus, I've read that some women can actually feel this happening, as in feel the uterus when it moves out from behind the pubic bone. I don't know if it's true or not.
Very cool and it suggests the lower abd pouch I have may be a little more than bloat. It feels weird, and that animation suggests it may be the other organs moving around to make space. Cool!

When people talk about "popping" what this means is that your uterus can no longer fit tucked neatly into your pelvic bone, and so it pops out past the pelvic bone (towards the abdominal area) and causes you to look bigger.
So this explains the pelvic pain I've been having the past few days......

Re: May be a stupid question...
I don't think this is stupid.
Yes, the uterus actually moves upward into the abdomen.

Here is this cool illustration showing how the uterus moves everything...someone had posted this on TTGP and I just found it again...
