At my new job the lactation room is use as you need it. At Yahoo! it's by a reservation system. While it was pretty formal, I liked it because I knew that I had MY time, and I could book my meetings around it. I hold a job that does a LOT of meetings, so that predictability is important to me, and trying to use the room only to find someone else is in it (when I might not be able to take another break soon) is stressing me out.
If you have to share a room at work and there is no formal schedule, how do you make it work?
Re: Ladies to have to pump at work... and share a room
I share a room but so far have not run into a conflict. We are supposed to write down when we are in there, but I don't think other people do. I swear I've come in just after someone leaves b/c the light is on (it turns off automatically when no one is in there) Can you find out who else is using the room and try to figure out your own schedule? How many people are using the room?
Do you bring your own pump (we have hospital grade pumps available for our use, but I still bring my own.) How would you feel pumping in front of others? I am pretty unmodest and if it was OK with the other woman, I would probably just pump with another person in the room.

the secret blog
this has been discussed on my old board a lot lately. seems they im each other and set up a schedule.
I had to do that too -- I'm glad that the new building I'm in (we moved while I was on leave) has a better set-up.

my friend was given a card table in their supply closet that also houses a creepy hazmat shower in it.
oh and cockroaches boo to supply closets.
Yeah, I'll def. inquire who's using it, but seeing as I'm the new person it will take me some time to figure it out.
And holy cow on the cockroaches. I'd be screaming at HR on that one.

Yikes! Yeah our supply closet has a window in it too, so when I go in there I tape pieces of paper over the windows. It's such a glamorous life
Yeah we have one room in our building, its FCFS - you put up the sign (In Use) when you're pumping. I think there were only about 2-3 of us using at any given time. I've done different things. Sometimes I've shared the room (plenty of space, really) if the other mom didn't care. Or if they wanted privacy I just cracked the door and asked how long they'd be and came back. A few times I noticed that I was always coming the same time as someone else who wanted privacy, so I just shifted my schedule a bit and it wasn't a problem.
I think if you're concerned about timing, there isn't a set schedule, and you can't get space when you need it, I'd just post a note up in the room and have everyone give some general notes on their pumping times and work from there.
