TTC after 35

First mammogram tomorrow

The REs office requires a mammogram for every patient over 35. I've never had one before. It's tomorrow  morning at 7:30am and then the RE "regroup" appt is at 9:30am. Hoping that they are both painless.

Re: First mammogram tomorrow

  • Good Luck tomorrow.  I've had 2 mamograms.  Not as bad as my mom told me...  But she scared me on paps too

Hope everything is pain free for you!

  • I had one at 38. I was a little stressed about the situation, ofcourse that was before the whole TTC thing and that was when I was still shy and embarassed to be exposed like that......gee how things change. Now getting naked and having a doc's face in places that you can't even see. LOL.

Yes, the mammogram....well I'm not gonna lie it was very uncomfortable and really I thought that the breast was going to explode. I did not get any bruising, however I am blessed with some excess fat in this area.....it helps. I was told that those with smaller breast have more trouble because they have little to squeeze into the plates that clamp down.......GL with both appt's

TTC since 2009 very frustrated 42yr and DH 40

5 cycles of Clomid with satisfactory response=BFN's

    IUI Inject's #2 Apr 2011...CANCELLED...low estradiol
    IUI Inject's #3 June 2011...BFN
    IUI Inject's #4 Sept2011...BFFN
    Lap Dec 2011...severe endo..cyst removed..some remains...
IVF#1 Apr 2012 ....cancelled due to over suppression
    IVF#2 July 2012....6 follies...only 1 retrieved....BFFN
surgery suggested to move ovary to an better placement but....we moved two time zones away and are financially and emotionally empty

  • I wouldn't worry about the pain.  On a pain scale, I would liken a mammogram to getting your blood pressure taken -- some pressure, but it has never been a big deal for me.  The worst part is that you can't wear deodorant prior to the exam (luckily it looks like yours is first thing in the AM).

So my (inexpert) advice:  don't stress too much!

     Good luck tomorrow!

  • I've had 2 done also. My sister had breast cancer a few years ago so I'm considered high risk and am supposed to go every year. It's not that bad. They'll squish your boobs and it's uncomfortable, but only for like 30 seconds. For me the more aggrevating part was waiting to make sure I didn't get a phone call from them the next day that they saw something.

  • I've had a bunch of mamms already as I am BRCA+ and get screened constantly due to being high risk. It's not bad at all. The tech manipulates your boob to get it in the right place but it is over quick. You can do it!

  • You ladies were right. I survived! lol. Really it wasn't that bad. Felt very clinical - move here, move there. The only bad part is that now I have to wait a week to get the letter in the mail to let me know all is clear.
