Babies: 6 - 9 Months

How many times a day is your LO BFing?

DD is just about 7 months and recently seems to be less and less interested in the boobs and much more curious about sippy cups.  She watches her brother like a hawk and practically jumps out of the highchair to get to his sippy.  I am getting nervous that she's not nursing enough.  She gets solids 3 times a day so I guess that is making the difference too...I keep offering the boobs over and over but she mostly "snacks" during the day and only TRULY nurses first thing in the morning and right before bedtime.  I remember her brother getting that way around 9 months.  This just seems so soon.

Anyone else? Confused

Re: How many times a day is your LO BFing?

  • My LO is 8 months and I definitely notice he's very distracted during the day while nursing and does best in the AM and in the PM (those two feeds). He gets bottles at daycare, so I can monitor exactly how much he's consuming there, at least. We also just weaned night feeds. All of a sudden, my freezer stash is building up again whereas before, it had gone down to 1/4 of what it was when I started work. So, yeah - I think he's consuming less than he was before. I'm trying to stall any more weaning at this stage. He should be getting, at minimum, 24oz per day per the pediatrician.

  • Maybe cut back on a meal? DS2 is still nursing quite a bit, but has slowed down on his weight gain so much, that I've been making sure to offer him a boob every two hours, even. You could also nurse when she's waking up from her naps, they tend to be less distracted then.

  • DD is nursing 4-5 times a day.

Each time she has lost interest in nursing she has cut a tooth a few days later.  Takes a couple of days but she will normally get back on track.

  • About 4-5 times a day - sometimes more.  We only do two solid meals though.

She is definitely more distracted now and nurses for shorter periods of time.  DH just commented on her "5 minute meals" yesterday and I just told him that they become more efficient nursers by this age (she used to nurse for an hour at a time as a newborn).  Sometimes though I'll take her in her nursery so she isn't so distracted and she eats much better then.

  • About every 2 hours here, except if she is taking her long 3 hour afternoon nap. Only wakes up once (sometimes or will STTN) for a quick feeding, sleeps 8-8. Is learning how to drink out of a sippy though because she refuses bottles.
