Sundress for MY going home outfit?

Is there any reason why I would NOT want to wear a sundress home after delivery?  I don't think I have any pants I will fit into except maternity clothes and sweats, and I am sick to death of them!  I figured the dress would be good if I have to get a c/s.  Will bleeding be too much of an issue?

  • I think its a great idea but then again, I'm a FTM.

As long as you're rocking some granny panties and a mega pad, I think you'll be ok.

  • I wore and will again wear yoga pants or something similar. I had a vaginal delivery and went home in 2 days, so the bleeding was still quite heavy and I needed a huge pad. Also, I didn't shave my legs while I was there, so I wouldn't have wanted to put on a dress. I say pack both so you can choose when the time comes. And, I hate to tell you, but most women can't fit back into their pre-preg pants right away. Even if your weight drops, your hips need to return to their normal width. Sorry :( I wanted to wear my normal clothes right away too. I was delusional enough to bring regular jeans to the hospital when I had my first.

  • I don't see why not, but you have to realize you are going to have a gigantic pad in your undies. You will be bleeding pretty heavily when you leave the hospital, so keep that in mind.

I will be wearing some fold over yoga pants home after my c/s.

  • I am bringing both a sun dress and some fold over yoga pants/shirt. I lean towards the sun dress, but will see what I feel like.

  • I'm planning on bringing a maxi dress, sweats and maternity jeans so I have a choice depending on how I'm feeling/looking.

  • That's a good idea! I think I will pack one as well (along with yoga pants in case I feel like wearing that instead). A lot of my dresses are actually my comfiest clothes right now.
  • the other day I wore a (non maternity, to boot!) jersey maxi dress, and i nearly keeled over with how comfortable they are.

i'm thinking of something like this:

    (with or without yoga leggings?)

or this if it's colder with a sweater:

would be winners in my book.

    Both from Target, btw!

  • I'm wearing a dress home.

bleeding is as much as an issue in a dress as it is in pants :)

  • I am bringing a maxi dress and yoga pants. I loved my maxi dresses so far the lately I feel like my butts to big for them. Lol !

  • Most of my girlfriends said to do pants if possible because the pads are SO big and they feel like they're going to fall out with a dress (even if they won't actually).  I'm planning on jeans, I despise yoga pants/sweats/etc. unless I'm heading to the gym.
  • i wore a sundress home with ds and fully plan on it this time...im actually stocking up on sundresses/maxi type dresses for this time around because they were so uch more comfortable on my c/s incision ... maybe just have one of those washable pads around to sit on in case of excess bleeding
  • Just a word of advice for those of you planning to wear jeans....pack a pair of yoga pants or something without a waistband in case you need a c-section. I couldn't wear jeans for a couple weeks after my surgery because the incision is right where the waistband hits you and it hurts.

  • I think I'm going to stock up on sundresses in general for this summer, as I'm trying to work back towards my pre-pregnancy weight.

This is great advice.  Pants in general will be very irritating on a c/s scar. That's why I love my yoga pants :)

Not only that, but with the gigantic pads I cannot imagine the bulk in jeans! I would feel like I was wearing a giant diaper in jeans. And even IF weight is not an issue, you are so puffy from fluid retention after labor and sitting around for a day or more. Add in the stitches or soreness down below and the constricting nature of jeans... No way for thus girl!

  • Speaking of this, these came highly recommended by my friends who were very anti the "mesh pads" with the giant blanket of a pad that you'll get post delivery.

I actually bought a few, and they're REAAAAAALLY soft (feel like heaven!), they don't dig at all (useful for potential c-sections - then again, I bought them a size up than I usually am) and if I never wear them afterwards, they were $9 for 2 at Target.

This. I've already ordered 4 new dresses for the summer. I love sundresses/maxis as it is.  I plan to bring a comfortable cotton sundress with a bra top for coming home, as well as some pajama pants and t-shirts.  We'll see!

  • I love sundresses in the summer, and wanted to wear them constantly after my son was born, but found them inconvenient to nurse in.  Any suggestions for dresses that are still nursing-friendly?

As for going home from the hospital, the first time around I wore yoga pants and a comfy, loose top. I imagine I'll do something similar this time. I desperately wanted to wear non-maternity clothes right away, but it took awhile!

Thanks for sharing these! They'll work great for BFing too {well as long as the ta-tas are behaving & not trying to pop out)

  • And they're like $20!

    Score!

  • I wore a terry cloth kind of sundress home with my DD and actually wore a pair of my DH's boxers over the sexy hospital mesh panties & pads.
