Trouble TTC

CD 1 Question and clomid?

I am confused at this. I am going to take Clomid days 5-9. My dr. was very informative and helpful about when I will take it, how, etc.I've been in and I've called them lol, I'm sure I am their favorite patient :) But I have a problem...I have low progesterone so I spot 4+ days before I actually get AF, but it is hard to tell what day is CD1 because, sorry TMI, it's bright red spotting sometimes too. Anyways, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. If I am one day off will that ruin it?

Re: CD 1 Question and clomid?

  • I have not taken Clomid, so I am not sure how it will effect it if it is 1 day off. However, they usually count CD1 as the first day of full red flow. I know it is hard to tell sometimes. You always can call your RE to ask what their guidelines are. I know about not wanting to call all of the time (I feel the same way...like I am bugging them). But I am sure they understand your concerns!

Good luck! I hope AF goes easy on you!

  • I haven't heard anybody else explain it this way, but my doc explains CD 1 as bloody, full flow (whatever a typical flow is for you) before noon.  He said, if you wake up in the morning and spot but at dinner time your flow is more steady and what you would consider normal for you, you actually count CD1 as the next day (because it was after noon). Also, I think you some flexibility in what day you start clomid, cause I was told to take it CD 3-7.

  • Awesome, thank you both so much! I know it seems weird to not know when you start your cycle but you know how spotting is :) Thanks again!
  • hmmm, I don't know.  I'm starting Clomid today for CD 5-9 for a Clomid challenge test.  One day off isn't going to mess you up but several days would.  I would go ahead and call and ask what to count as your CD1.  I assume you aren't charting?  I don't chart cuzz we do IVF so I actually had an FSH test on CD3 already.

  • As PP said- a day or two early won't matter- depending on the Dr.you can take it CD 3-7 too.I would say- when you feel like it is for sure CD 1, count it, you have a little time.

  • Generally, CD1 is understood as the first day of red flow that requires more than a pantyliner. If you are unsure, though, I would suggest contacting your doctor.

  • I'm on my first round of Clomid this month (CD 3-7), currently on CD 5. My RE just told me that by being on Clomid, you will ovulate 5 to 9 days after the last pill. So I was "instructed" to start BD CD 10, every other day, for a week, and then I have to go for my progesterone blood test CD 17 to see if in fact I ovulated.

So in answer to your question, I don't think it's necessarily bad to be one day off, but just to keep in mind that 5 days after you take the last pill, you should be gearing up to ovulate.

     Good luck to you!

  • Great!! Thank you for your replies...glad to know if I am off a bit it's ok.
