Baby Names

Trying to use grandmothers' names....not looking so good.

Hi, so my husband and I are trying to use names of our grandmothers to honor them. His grandmother passed two years ago and mine is declining rapidly. She has bladdar cancer and with her other health conditions, it was deemed inoperable.

The problem is that neither name is really that nice. LOL! We are trying not to get hung up vanity about it but at the same time want our baby to be proud (if it's a girl-- we find out next week).

His grandmother's name is Consuello (no middle name) and my grandmother's is Winnie Bee. They are both very old fashioned in their own culture. Anybody got any suggestions on how we could salvage these into something great?

  • Do you know the sex of your baby yet?

  • No, we find out next week. Just trying to get prepared.

  • Consuallo may make a nice middle name... has a pretty rhythm to it. Winnie Bee is a tough one. It's not short for anything?
  • i think your grandmas name is adorable! what about bella, belle or willow? connie...thats knind of a terrible name though. haha

  • I asked my dad to verify, Winnie Bee is it.

  • In Hispanic culture, Connie wouldn't be used for Consuello however, not sure if my side of the family would understand that. LOL! This may end up being too complicated.

  • mj.reilly, I like your ideas. They are creative and classic. I will run them by DH.

  • Wow, that is highly unusual! :) Maybe initials would be a good route to go.. give her a W B name? I do think mixing all three names could be very tough but perhaps doable?

    Whitney Bella Consuello?

    Wilhelmina Bee Consuello?

    Wren Bridget Colette?

Okay, sorry for the randomness here just trying to brainstorm. :)

ETA: And what mj said. :) Love Beatrice!

  • For Winnie could you possibly Winifred, with the NN Winnie.

  • We like Beatrice Consuello so far however I may consider modifying the spelling of Beatrice as my grandmother's name is actually spelled Winnie Bee. I thought it would Bea too but I double checked with my Dad. It's Bee.

  • Bee could be Bianca

Winnie could be Wendy, Winifred, Winona

  • Okay, here's an idea. Why not honor her with a name that means "Bee" or is associated with honey? On Baby Names World, I found these names that supposedly mean "bee" or "Honey-bee":

Deborah (and variations of it like Debbie)

    Melissa and Missie

    Melina (Greek for "Honey")

    Here's the link.

  • We know a little girl named Winnie and she is the cutest little thing. I like it :)

I also think Bee as a MN (for family purposes) is super sweet.

I was going to suggest Beatrice nn Bea as well.

No help on the Consuella part... sorry. I'm struggling with the same issue with my grandmother's name.

  • mj.reilly-- Good point. I like the look and sound of Beatrice. Defiantly good advice to consider. I am actually pretty excited about Beatrice Consuello now. :)

  • I dont like the idea of completly changing the names into something its not. Winnie isnt too bad if you dont mind pooh bear jokes when shes older. I would go with Bea Consuello rather than Bee Consuello, but to each their own!

  • Thanks ladies for all of your help and suggestions. The task doesn't seem so difficult now. :)

I'm sorry about your grandmother - my grandfather battled bladder cancer for years before passing away while I was PG with my second son.

FWIW, I happen to think Winnie Bee is about the sweetest name ever.  I would absolutely use either Winnie or Bee as is for the mn slot.  Do you have to honor both grandmothers with this one baby?  I'd try to save one for a future child if I could.

  • I also like Beatrice with NN Bea/Bee.

If you don't like Winnie, maybe Wynn(e)?

  • Maybe you could just use the first initial of each name?

I think those are great names.

I personally would go with: Winifred "Winnie" Consuello

    Or maybe: Beatrice "Bea" Consuello

    I love them both!

Do you need to use both for this child? Could you save one? Just a thought. If not, maybe a double middle name.

    This is great!!!!

  • I love Consuelo - I have a friend by this name. I would use that as a mn. As far as Winnie and Bee go... Beatrice is the first to come to mind and I love this name as well as Beatrix and Beatriz...

Beatriz Consuelo nn Bea or Trissy

  • Sounds like there have been some good suggestions (and I personally think that Winnie is a great NN), but just to throw this out there as an alternative...do you know their maiden names? Maybe those would make good middle names?

Also, since you may be having a boy, how about Winston?
