So I am not working right now, my family feels as though its there obligation to find me things to do. My uncle owns his own insurance company. He called me last week asking if i could help him out a day this week just updating there facebook and what not. So I said yes. I go to the office they have me sitting in the board room with everyone with a "intern" sheet and wanting me to work there everyday for a month calling people and researching how to market to international groups better and so on. My problem isnt working but its the fact he told me one thing and gets me in the office and im now working for a month and writing stories for blogs about health care. I wouldnt mind if i knew anything about it but i know nothing about health care.
So im feeling as though im drowning from this awful cold/flu and i want to rest up do to the fact i have inlaws coming in for my shower this weekend. I told him id come in next week to pick up the list of things to do. he writes me back, "its best if you come in"
i want to write back and say, no im not coming in im sick and i have a big weekend and i dont want anything to do with writing stories and calling people. haha
I am just mad he ambushed me infront of his co workers so id have no chance to say no to this. JUST SO ANNOYED oh im not getting paid to help him this is for my "health" aghhhhh hahha
Re: Felt ambushed by uncle...
Yeah, I would so be turning him down. You ALWAYS have the chance to say no. It's his own fault for putting you in this position.
This. Or at least tell him that you thought you would be doing X but since the expectations have changed you re-evaluated this situation and you won't be able to keep up with the work schedule due to your pregnancy.

Personally I would have packed my stuff up and just left. Its not fair for anyone (even family) to expect free labor out of you. Especially on a topic you know nothing about.
Then again I have no problem telling my family to back off when needed.
If you don't want to do the work, and you're not gettting paid for it, and you didn't want to agree to it to begin with then tell him!! Yah, I certainly would not be doing it. Sorry Uncle! Find someone else!
This. It's also against fair labor practices.
