restaurant high chairs?

we are totally lame and have not taken the kids out to a restaurant yet (besides Panera and we kept them in their stroller). It always just seemed like more hassle than it was worth for us. Well,today, my mom wants to get us out for lunch. So my question is, at what age are they big enough for the restaurant high chairs? They can sit unsupported, so I'm assuming they are fine, but I don't want to get there and look clueless :-)

I think as soon as they're very comfortable sitting, they're probably fine (as long as you're keeping a close eye on them).  Alternatively, if the restaurant has those basic wooden high chairs, most of them can be flipped upside down to accommodate an infant car seat (and that way you can be certain that your LOs are secure).  Enjoy the outing!

As long as they can sit unsupported, they will be fine.  DS actually found it quite entertaining.  The newness of what he was doing, kept him occupied for quite a bit!

I have sat my little one in restaurant chairs since he was 5 months, but since they are a bit roomie fir him, I usually take an extra, kind of fluffy blanket with me to fill in a little space around his belly and sides so he can sit all the way against the back of the seat without sliding forward.

I tried at 5 months, it was a no go. I tried at 6 months and he loved it. He was a really good sitter then. He enjoyed it a lot the first few times.

Our LOs are about the same age and he does fine in them. Some are better than others, though (ie. the ones with really short backs aren't so great). Just throw the stroller in the trunk so you have a back-up (or if all the high-chairs are in use).

Also - we usually bring a toy that can hook on the high chair to keep him occupied.

We let our LO sit in a wooden high chair 3 weeks ago and she loved it! We also tucked a blanket behind him so she was more secure.

Same as others...DS does great in it, but I put a blanket or something soft behind him.

We started using them around 6 months when Zoey could sit unsupported. She always hated being in the infant seat while we were out but she LOVES the high chair.
