Hi ladies! This is my first time here in years (since TTC my first child in 2006) and things have changed!! I've been lurking a little bit and am seeing all kinds of new information (had no idea that metformin could be taken to increase milk supply??) Anyway, I'm 38, got PG with my son (who is almost 4) through an IUI and want to have another child. Up until recently, we were happy with having just one child because I'm an only child, my mom is an only child, etc. so we KNOW only children and how to raise them. My mother was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in its latter stage a few weeks ago and it has made me feel so alone. I have a wonderful husband who is very supportive, but he doesn't really know how I feel. I feel like only a sibling would truly understand that, and I want that for my son. To be honest, I'm not sure I'm ready to go through pregnancy, childbirth and the first couple of years again (sick all through pregnancy, difficult birth, severe postpartum depression, son didn't sleep through the night until he was 2, etc.) but I just don't have time on my side right now. Sorry to ramble on....will try to get to the point. Basically, I need to lose probably at least 30 lbs. before I could conceive -- I weigh 20 lbs. more now than I weighed when I got pregnant the first time and it's also almost 5 years later!) SO, I need any advice you can give me re: weight loss with PCOS because I have struggled for years to lose weight. I've been trying to eat low carb, no sugar, drink lots of water and haven't lost a POUND. I'm so frustrated and I'm only at the beginning of this journey to have another child. If it helps to know, I conceived using Femara combined with IUI on the first try -- twice (I miscarried the first child at 8 weeks). I remember having problems with low progesterone, but I seem to have forgotten any other details. Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations!
Re: Newbie w/PCOS, need advice re: TTC & weight loss
Oh Dearie!!! This was such a long and difficult journey for me too. I have also been diagnosed with PCOS and had a horrible tubal pregnancy in January. But the best advice I can give you it to completely brain wash yourself and COMMIT!!
I was 226 lbs and my doctor told me that I had to loose at least 25 pounds. I have been on every crazy carb-free, no sugar, juice cleanse, Atkinsy diet out there. Here is what finally worked for me:
I ran to my cupboard and threw out all my junk food. I order an exercise series (after much crazy late night research) and I dove right into it. I started doing P90-X, (it was so hard the first time I did it that I threw up.) I lost 20 pounds in about 3 months. I begin my first IVF cycle on May 4th. Basically I eat tons and tons of veggies and salads, a good amount of fruits and some grains, dairy and protein. Don't get me wrong, I miss McDonald's and every once in a while, I drive through and see my old friend Ronald! But I was so unhealthy and sugar-soaked, any change was improvement.
I wish you the best of luck. You can totally do this!! Change a little at a time. Eat "better" if not healthy. Any improvement is better than what you were doing before. You'll see the results. Then maybe add in some exercise and before you know it...your having another baby!!!
I don't have any advice, but wanted to welcome you back to the board and wish you lots of luck with getting that cutie-pie a brother or sister very soon...also, big (((hugs))) to you and your mom!
