I can follow directions but I cannot come up with artsy ideas on my own. Is there a site that says buy this and plant it in this order? If so, what is it?
Your best bet would be to go to a nursery a talk to someone that works there. You need to tell them how much sun the plants are going to get and they can help you come up with some options. I think it's prettiest to plant 3 things in big pots: something tall in the middle, flowers around it for color and then a drapey plant like a vine- usually some kind of ivy.

This. I have learned that my favorite flowers don't do go in all sun and my yard is mostly all sun.
If you can get to a Mahoney's, they will usually have someone on staff who can help you (totally worth the 90min trip to Wilmington from where I am, IMO) I also found that some plants need to be blocked from wind - a harsh lesson after spending a lot of $$ on holly bushes.
Re: Website for what plants to put in a pot to look good needed
this. ?Don't want to plant things in an arrangement that take different light or moisture. ?Or that will strangle out the others, etc.
