how to handle night weaning during illness?

I weaned night feedings last week. It went very well and my little guy has been completely off night feedings for the past few days, with no problems. However, today, he's had a fever on and off. Do I just let him sleep through the night without any fluids? 12 hours is a long time to go and I just worry about him. At the time I put him to bed, he no longer had a fever and I had given him ibuprofen just to be safe (in case something was hurting). Just curious about how others handle this.

  • Generally if Eli doesn't feel well or hasn't eaten enough during the day and wake up in the night, I feed him. I think when babies are sick all previous night routines go out the window unfortunately.

  • sometimes Evangelina just wants to be cuddled but usually if she doesnt stop fussing within3-5 min shes hungry and I feed her. just my own rule of thumb there

  • I wouldn't wake him up just to feed.  If he wakes up upset I would offer though.

  • Absent vomiting or diarrhea, I don't worry too much about dehydration with a fever assuming he is still having wet diapers.  Agree with PP that it all goes out the window when they are sick.  I encourage as much sleep as possible.

DS night weaned months ago and may still wake up on occasion bc he is sick or just hungry.  If he's fussy for more than a little bit, I assume hunger too.
