my insurance covers my pump!

so with all the talk here, I finally called my insurance company to see whether or not they'd paid for some of the cost of a BP.  Well, turns out they'll cover 80%. I'm shocked!  I ABSOLUTELY did not think they would cover any of it.  I was initially planning on BF over the summer (I'm a teacher) and then stopping in 3 months when school starts up again.  This was my plan because I know it will be difficult to pump at work due to lack of privacy.   In addition, my husband is not working but going to school so money is tight and I couldn't imagine shelling out some $300 for a decent pump.  Now that I know i can get most of cost paid for, and how much this would save us in the cost of formula, I think i'm going to reconsider my plan.  I may just have to go to my car every planning/lunch period.  Hmmm...

So, in the end, I would just like to thank all of the ladies who have repeatedly said to call.  I've finally listened and it's paid off!

  • I am right there with you!! I kept hearing that you need to give your insurance a call and I finally did last week and they will cover 80%, too!! I am thrilled! I just have to buy it from the lactation center at my hospital, no big deal!  Yea for us! :)

    Good news.

Pretty sure your employer has to (by law) provide a private space for you to pump.  I'd def ask, there is no reason you should have to pump in your car!

  • I so need to call my insurance company and find out if they cover breast pumps. I'm hoping to get one as a gift from my aunts but you just never know and op is right, $300 is a lot of money to pay.
