Summer baby - sleeping

What did your summer infant sleep in? I haven't registered for or bought any sleepers b/c I wasn't sure about the weather this summer/Fall. Our house usually stays reasonably cool in the summer, especially if I keep the blinds closed (which I do in our bedrooms to keep them cool) so the rooms probably stay around 68-72 during the summer. What should I sleep LO in to sleep in? Should she still be swaddled in a blanket/swaddler if it's really warm?

Re: Summer baby - sleeping

  • DS was born in July and it was crazy hot that summer.  He slept in a sidesnap tshirt (long or short sleeve), a diaper, and an Aden and Anais swaddle blanket every night for two months.  When the weather cooled off I moved him to either a cotton jersey or fleece sleep sack with a tshirt or full jammies underneath.  A&A now make muslin sleep sacks and if I had an infant now, that's what I'd get once the baby was done with swaddling.

I just saw those online at BBB - definitely adding some to the registry. Thanks for the tips.

  • We are in San Francisco so it is never hot here. We learned she sleeps much better when she is warmer rather than cooler. We dressed her in footed sleepers and a fleece swaddle when she was a newborn and that worked really well. Once she was out of swaddling at around 3 months old, we started using fleece sleepsacks instead and we are still using fleece footed pjs and fleece sleepsacks (and keep her room heated to 70 degrees all year round).

  • E slept in a onesie and swaddled in A&A muslin blanket. Sometimes I put him in a thin cotton button up outfit with onesie.  He wasn't really one for swaddling.

Ditto all of this, including the sleep sacks - DD was a summer baby (born shortly after futurkingsley's son) and it was hot. After putting her in fleece sleepers and swaddling her, then telling the pediatrician we were concerned about how much she was sweating (duh) she slept in onesies and was swaddled. DS was the same, and when he was done with swaddling we used the A&A sleep sacks.

  • Even though G was  a July baby it is never warm in Monterey (we had fog rolling by our hospital room window) so he ended up sleeping in the fuzzy sleepers and a swaddle. Also, he had a problem regulating/maintaining his temperature so even when we kept our house pretty warm with the heater he was still cold and needed to be bundled up. He still sleeps much better if he's warm.
  • dd was a july newborn .. b/c our house got so hot (w/ the a/c going we considered it a victory if it cooled down to 75-80 degrees from 85 during the day) dd slept in a onesie and a light swaddle (xl receiving blankets).

  • Thanks for posting, DS was a winter baby and this one is due in July.  I think our favorite for infant sleep wear was sleep sacks, the easiest to change in the middle of the night.  I am also a HUGE fan of Aden & Anais swaddle blankets, they are so soft and light weight.
