Suggestions for clingy baby

Alex has always been a cuddle bug, but ever since our trip to my sisters last week he's been terrified to be put down at night. He's never been a great sleeper, though with time and effort we had him sleeping for 3-4 hours at a time with a five minute wake  up. Now, he refuses to sleep unless he's snuggled in with me, with easy access to breast. He won't use his pacifier, he doesn't want his daddy, and he wakes up screaming within 20 minutes of me moving him to his crib.

Co-Bedding isn't a safe option for us, since our bed is already on the small side for two of us and DH sleeps like a brick. I've been trying to reassure him with routine, etc... but nothing seems to be working. Ferber resulted in three days of a two and a half hour screaming baby who clung the second we stopped.

Could he be teething or have anything else going on that is making him more fussy at night? Have you tried a lovey or something else with your scent? Is moving his crib into your room an option?

He might be teething again, come to think of it No sign of bumps on his gums and his temp hasn't spiked, which happened with both of his other teeth... but the temper matches perfectly. I currently have him mowing down on cheerios :P

I'm actually deliberately wearing a shirt I can put on his teddy tonight so that he has my scent. I'm also going to change his sheet again and spriz a little of my body spray on it. Lavender is out because I'm really allergic to it. HIs crib is already in our room- one bedroom condo, so no room for it to be elsewhere. We might try swaddling again as well, so he feels more 'cuddled' in his crib.
