SO PISSED at friend I loaned my maternity crap to!

This morning I opened up the bins of maternity clothing that I had loaned to a friend.  I put on a pair of black dress pants, and wha?  They are way short?  that's weird, they fit me perfectly before.

So I took them off and looked at the hem.  She HAD ALTERED THEM!  The freaking nerve.  I was too pissed to look and see if I could let them back down.

How incredibly nervy of her to do that.  If she had called and asked me if she could alter my clothes I would have said NO - I AM PLANNING ON USING THEM AGAIN.

Pissed.

  • Oh I would be so incredibly mad too...that is just terrible that she took it upon herself to do that. I borrowed a few things from a girl at work with #2 and I was so afraid I was going to ruin them that I barely wore them....very rude!

  • That's just wrong.  I hope you can let them back down but no matter what, that's jut wrong.  I'd charge her for any alterations you have to do - even if you do them yourself.

     I'd be pissed, too.

(P.S. your little girl is such a cutie.  I love seeing posts from you cause I love seeing her pic!)

  • I say call her out on it!!!!! That is extremely rude. I am pissed off for you. she should pay for another black dress.

I have a friend like that... She never gives me back my stuff  until months later, loses all the accessories that I loan to her and when I give it to her nice and dry cleaned, I get it back dirty. I have refused to loan anythng to her now and she is my best friend.

  • I don't loan out anything to anyone anymore. I had alot of friends lose my clothes and ruin them. If anything, I'd just give it to them. I'd tell her to buy you a new pair.
  • That's so terrible! Wow.

  • That really sucks!! I would call her on it too. Borrowing something usually insinuates that you don't render it useless to the original owner. Are you able to let them back down?

I also try not to loan things out for these reasons...thought usually it's more because we never get the freaking things back!

  • Give her the box of un-wearables back, and ask her if she wouldn't mind paying for at least a portion of that....it's just about the LEAST she could do.

  • I can't believe she gave them back to you knowing that she altered them! Did she think you wouldn't notice????? haha

I'd be ticked too-you should say something to her like "Gee I must have grown a few inches since the last time I was pregnant because my pants seem so much shorter on me now!"

  • Yeah, that is unacceptable.  I would hope that she at least had it done in such a way that it can be easily fixed.  I would call, or email if you're more comfortable, and just tell her that because she hemmed all this stuff, it is now unwearable for you.  I would ask her to pay for having everything un-hemmed.

If she did it in a way that it can't be fixed (either cut the fabric or the stitching ruined the material) then I would expect her to replace everything.

  • Oh I'd be PO'ed!

When I alter my own stuff, I only use reversible options (like safety pins or tacking the hem) ... I would NEVER alter (permanently) someone else's clothes without their permission!

  • yeah, I'd be pissed...

  • How Completely inconsiderate of her. I Know how you feel, I lent my sister all my maternity clothes when she was in desperate need about 2 yrs. ago and now when I need them back she tells me she has no Idea where they are and she will never have to time to look for them because she has two kids.I'm really pissed,My sister of all People and there was some really cute stuff that wasn't cheap.Super Angry

  • Wow, maybe I'm the only one, but if I loan something out, I do it with the thought in my head that I may not get it back.  If I'm not okay with that, I don't loan it out.  Also, maybe you should check if it's fixable before you get so upset.
