So, I had to do the 1 hour GTT early (and I get to take it again at 26 weeks, yay) because I have PCOS and was on metformin to regulate my cycles and induce ovulation.
I just got a call from the nurse at the OB's office, who said that my glucose number was slightly elevated (147). Everything I have seen online is that anything below 180 is considered normal for the 1 hour test, and below 140 for the 3 hour.
Does that seem right? I'm just not sure if she read it wrong and thought that I did the 3 hour instead of the 1 hour. She only called me because I had called earlier in the week looking for the results and she made a note in my chart to call no matter what with the results. She is having the doc look at the results to see what they want to do (either just retake it at 26 weeks or do the 3 hour now).
Re: Normal results for 1 hour GTT???
Did you then have to do the 3 hour?
So, does it not matter whether you do the 1 or 3 hour? What is considered normal is still the same?
I guess that is really my question. The nurse did say that they like to see it below 135.
Yep, I failed it one week and took the 3 hour the following week and failed that with DD.
With DS I took the 1 hour at 12 weeks, passed it then, but failed it at the 28 week test. But with him I passed the 3 hour test
I'm confused by your question. The 1 hour test is just a screening test. It cannot tell you whether you have GD or not. The 3 hour test is the actual diagnostic test.
This link talks about specific levels:
https://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/glucose/test.html
Most women won't be diagnosed with GD after just the 1 hour, unless their number is quite high. In my case, with my DD my 1 hr number was 194, so I went straight to treating GD (my dr used 140 as the cut-off). This time my 1 hr number was 175, so I took the 3 hour and failed that, too. The cut-off levels for the 3 hr are different because the test is designed differently. The cut-off number for the fasting is different than the 1 hr cut-off, etc. I'm not sure what the cut-offs are, though.
Since your 1 hr was only slightly elevated, there is a good chance you don't have GD. But I would take the 3 hr to be sure, because if you DO have it, it's important to begin treating it right away.

I know i phrased that wrong or maybe I'm just dense.
That website says that 180 is the cut-off for the 1 hour and 140 for the 3-hour. That is where I'm confused.
You had the one hour 'glucose challenge' in that chart. The one hour result in the "3 hour GTT) is NOT the same as the 1 hour glucose challenge. The 3 hour test uses a much higher sugar content drink so the value is 180 for that vs 140 in the 1 hour test.
If you only sat there for 1 blood draw, you need to be below 140.
THANK YOU!
I thought maybe I was reading it wrong.
