Ebay sellers - come on in

I have always been interested in selling on Ebay, but never got the chance to. However, an order from Zulily arrived today, and am not a fan of one of the dresses after seeing it in person.

I figured this is my chance to go ahead and get on the Ebay train. However, when going through the steps to post an item, I was a bit overwhelmed. Shipping choices, handling time, buy it now, etc. I am lost. How do I know what to charge for shipping? It's just a dress, so I assume it won't be much at all.

Any help all around would be great! Thanks!

Re: Ebay sellers - come on in

  • Shipping is usually a flat rate then added for each additional item. However, I have also seen people go on a basis of weight then added for each pound. Maybe look up a median distance from you? Sorry if I'm not much help, I just came in here to say hai, but thought I should chip in something relevant.

    Hai!!

Yeah, I think I'm just going to take a random guess on shipping. It can't be much, so I can't go too wrong. Thanks!

  • I calculate shipping based on the post office's flat rate boxes. A tiny dress would probably be no more than $6 shipped anywhere so I would make shipping $8-10. You also aren't charged selling fees on shipping so a trick is to make the shipping high and hope for the best. I would buy one of those bags to ship in, instead of a box and that will make it cheaper so you'll make out on the shipping. I shipped 2 nursing tanks from MD to Alaska and it was $6 priority.

If you have more questions let me know. I wouldn't do buy it now. I would make the auction for a long time period (a week) and set the initial bid to at least $10.

Thanks for the info!! I am going to set it up tomorrow night hopefully, so we will see how it goes!

How does it work when someone buys and you get paid? Does it just go to your paypal acct?

Exactly. You will want to set it up for paypal only. And you only need like 2-3 pictures of the dress. Don't go overboard with that. If you need help on tags or what to "name" the auction I would search for other dresses of that brand and copy some of the words. Make sure you categorize it correctly too by size and type of clothing.
