Warrior Dash - safe??

So I just got off the phone with my doctor's office, and since I haven't had my first appointment yet, she couldn't give me any medical advice (wtf??)  Anyway, I signed up for the Warrior Dash a few months ago, and for those of you that don't know, it's pretty much a 3 mile obstacle course that invovles running, climbing, crawling, and maybe some jumping.  My question is, can I safely participate in this??  It's this coming weekend, and I'll be 8w3d.  My thoughts are if I don't push myself too hard, baby and I should be fine.  I'm not in as good of shape as I used to be, but I can still manage a light jog/walk of 2 miles.....
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Warrior Dash - safe??

  • Only you can determine if you can "safely," as you said, do it.  Like everything in pregnancy, use caution and common sense.

It's my understanding that if you are used to that type of exercise, then you are okay.  If this is just something you're doing on a whim, don't do it.

I would definitely be calling your doctor's office back to get their professional opinion.

  • That's not the one with the live electric wires is it?

Honestly, I would probably skip it.  There's also a lot of drinking involved after the race too, isn't there?

  • I was signed up for one as well...I decided not to do it as I will be 16 weeks by then and although I still will be able to run, alot of those obstacles could involve falling and crawling on your belly...

  • I think I'd ask myself if the risk was worth the reward.  I know, for me, climbing is out.  Anything that makes a fall worse than what it would be if you were standing on the ground is something I've been told not to do.

And if I were answering the question for myself, I'd say that if anything did happen, I'd never forgive myself.  I don't think the risk is worth it.  And I love doing stuff like this, too.

  • I was also signed up for one.  I would have only been 5 weeks, but I canceled anyway.  I am sure I would have been fine, but if (God forbid) something ended up wrong with the baby, I would forever be asking myself, "what if it was the warrior dash?"  Ugh!  I know that is kinda dumb, but better safe than sorry I guess...

  • I pulled out of mine b/c my IVF doctor said I was crazy to do it.  There is so much mud and water that the chances of falling/slipping as so high.  And the log rolling is also on your stomach and just not safe really.  Personally, I would have pulled out even if I didn't ask my dr after watching MH do it last year.

no electric wires, but there is some fire jumping.... yes, I know, that just sounds crazy.  I guess since I don't feel pregnant, I thought it might be ok.  Better safe, than sorry.  I can still go and cheer on my hubby and friends.
Thanks for the advice ladies :)

  • I would do it if it was only running involved. I ran a half marathon at 5 weeks. My dr said the baby is so low in the pelvis right  now that the chances of injury are really low...but go with your gut feeling.

  • I wouldn't do it! You can easily fall from those obsticles. Why chance it? Plus, you haven't been checked out by an OB yet so you don't really know the condition of your baby or your cervix. Just my opinion though Big Smile

  • I wouldn't do it. I was going to sign up but was waiting to see if we were pregnant. I would do run, but not the warrior dash. Too many chances IMO of getting hurt.
