SAHM - What do you do all day?

I'm new to SAH and I have no idea what to do with DD all day. Right now she's going crazy in her jumper but I can't keep her in that all day! ;)

I feel like I'm so boring with her! Besides eating and napping, we mostly just sit and play with her toys, read books and go for walks.

What do you do?

  • That sounds like our days. There is only so much you can do.

  • We were on lockdown during rsv season but in a couple weeks when that is lifted we are going to start story time at the library and swimming lessons. I try to gtg with other SAHMs weekly too. It helps to get out of the house!

  • I purposely put her to bed a bit late so we get up later, that eats some of the day. She is in the jumper while I eat breakfast. Then we watch TV for a bit and it's time to nurse and nap. Naps are about 2 hours this week so that eats a lot of the day. Then we wake up, eat and play on the activity mat maybe take a cat nap. H gets home around 5 so my day "ends". They're onlyup for 2-3 hours at a time so it's realy not that exciting of a day.

  • We joined a playgroup so 3ish times a week we go out in the morning and play with babies and toddlers.  She loves all the excitement and I get some great company.

  • It seems likes it changing every 5 minutes but yes, play with toys, jumper/exersaucer,and go on play dates.

  • Play dates, play groups, sing and dance time. I bake and prep supper with my oldest when Kirstin naps. Oh and bump from my phone. The summer is alot better when you SAH, we will be outside alot. Beach, pool, picnic! I can't wait.

  • I definitely try to get out of the house at least once a day. Even if it's just running to the store or taking a walk around the neighborhood. But the rest of what you said is pretty much what Isaac and I do.

Nobody ever really tells you how "exciting" the first few months are.

We do this too. I have a couple different groups that we visit. It's nice to have interaction with other mommies and babies (gives me things to plan around and look forward to).

  • We go to the park, go swimming and take a blanket and toys outside to play.  I have friends/family members who are close by who have babies close in age, so sometimes we get together with them.  I am thinking of joining gymboree or some similar type of baby class.
  • That sounds like our days. We read, if it's nice out we'll go for a hike or a walk around the neighborhood, maybe I'll go into town and walk around, ect. I'll go grocery shopping. Pretty boring stuff. I'm trying to find a mom's group though so we'll see.

  • I pretty much run around like a madwoman trying to get stuff done and keep the twins entertained.  They have their jumpers, play mats, exersacuers, and tons of floor toys.  I usually run an errand once or twice a week and now that it's warmer out I want to start going to the park.  I joined a moms group and we have playdates that I go to.

Sometimes I don't get out as much as I want.  I feel bad but trying to get both of them out the door sometimes takes longer than it does to actually go out.  Maybe that is why I have so much indoor entertainment.

It sounds like you are doing good - it took me awhile to get the hang of the SAH thing.

  • Well I'm glad I'm not alone! I don't have a car during the weekdays so GTGs groups are out. We do have a library within walking distance so maybe we can see if they have a story time. Thanks ladies! And gent!

  • Oh isn't staying at home glamorous!?  Uh..right.  We spend some time everyday playing/practicing milestones.  Now that its nice (THANK GOD) she spends a lot of time in the stroller while I run/walk.  We go visit Grandma a lot who is retired and lives nearby.  My go to boredom buster is going to Target or the Mall just to bum around.

I don't keep a strict schedule because I feel super tied down SAH a lot of the time, and luckily DD can nap on the fly. I can't stand being home all day, so we aren't!
