Nicknames I use often are Bud and Tweety. I didn't plan it ahead of the
birth, but they just came about as I was taking care of LO. What are some of the nicknames you use that have nothing to do with a variation of your child's name?
I call Dane Dee-Dee or Snoop-A-Loop (from Old School). Lots of people call him Daner or Dane-o-saur. Vaughn we often call V or Boops. No reason for any of them other than they came out of my mouth one day and stuck!
Mima and Cielo are the ones I use most for DD. They are terms of affection, though, I wouldn't exactly call them "nicknames." I don't plan on anyone else ever calling her these things, not even my DH.
To me, a nickname is more something like "Anita," which everyone in my family calls me. I wouldn't call the pet names my mother, and my mother alone, or my father alone use for me "nicknames."
I call DD "Mini" more than I realize. It started out as a joke as I called her my little "Mini-me" and it just stuck. She also now loves Minnie Mouse.....so may-be I should change it from Mini to Minnie??
I see these as Pet names, not really Nicknames. Nicknames generally stick with someone for life. Of course, Pet names often become regular nicknames as well.
Ex--I know a teenager who's always gone by Bucky, and I'm pretty sure that's not his given name.
That being said, my guy has a ton of little pet names... Schmoopy and Cheeks when he was an infant. Now I call him my Little Bear/Sleepy Bear/Stinky Bear/Grumpy Bear... whatever the situation.

Bits/Bitmeister is my oldest one since my husband used to talk about all her little Bits when she was a baby, baby.
Biscuit is my #2. And I mostly call her this or Bisc. This nn evolved from my over consumption of chicken biscuits while pregnant.
Neither planned, just happened. Bits has faded since we're yelling her name more opten but Biscuit/Bisc will probably stick around for some time!
Married my best friend on 5/14/05
Three Girls: Bits 2/08 Biscuit 10/09 & Sweet Chuck 2/12 One Favorite son: Suishy Smalls 6/14 And another Princess coming 7/16
Punky for DD. DH started calling her this for no reason. What's funny is that my grandmother called me that when I was little, too. He had no idea when he started calling DD Punky.
Re: Nicknames not related to given names
DD is Piglet.
It started because she's been on the small side since birth so I referred to her 'as a very small animal"
