I had my Growth U/S today, and she said baby is 8lbs 5oz., plus or minus one pound. So even if it's on the very low end, subtracting a pound, that's a 7lb 5oz baby, plus 1/2 a pound per week.
I'm not really excited about birthing 9 1/2 pound baby! Eeek!
Has anyone else experienced this?
Re: 36 weeks with an 8lb. 5oz. baby! Anyone else have a GIANT baby?
Just about to transition over, but last time my Abbey was 9 lbs 6 oz, and I'm a pretty petite 5 ft nothing mama. I still feel like quite a stud that I didn't need a c Still, took quite some time, which is making me a little nervous for this time around.
Good luck! One great thing about big babies- they eat more at a time, and sleep longer stretches
My son was born 9 lbs. 1 oz. at 38 weeks exactly. I had no idea he was going to be such a big baby because my OB practice does not do routine ultrasounds in the third trimester (so I had not had an ultrasound since 20 weeks). I had a successful vaginal birth - worst part was 2 hours of pushing, but only had a minor tear. I was induced at 38 weeks for high blood pressure and swelling, but if I went to my due date I would have had a 10+ pound baby! (And I just had a growth ultrasound today at 37 weeks based on my history and baby is measuring at 7 lbs. 2 oz... I know they can be off by a lot, but it is looking like this baby likely will not be as big as my son was.)
No, I don't have Gestational Diabetes. I'm only 5'5", and I am not overweight. I've only gained 29 pounds during the whole pregnancy.
I think me and DH are just dense.(haha) We both weigh a lot more than we look like we should...so maybe baby will be average size but weigh more?
Luckily, my midwives don't believe in C-sections due to U/S measurements, since those are always off.
If your body can build it, you sure as heck can birth it! (most of the time....)
It's ironic that I came across this post today. Last week the doctor estimated my baby to be about 7-8 pounds and scheduled an ultrasound because its head didn't drop far enough. On the 12th I had my last weekly appt. and u/s. After the tech took the measurements, she said, "Oh, wow! You are looking at an 11 pound baby!" DH and I can't believe it. Needless to say doc recommended a c-section. After having no complications the entire pregnancy, we have been thrown for a loop. I was due the 14th, and now am scheduled for a c-section on that day because they don't want the baby to get any bigger!
BTW- no diabetes was diagnosed
Good luck to all who have "big" babies!
Yes we are too! At 37 weeks the growth ultrasound said the babys measurements were the gestational age over 40 weeks, and they calculated the weight to be over 9 lbs. So needless to say that we have a C-section scheduled for the 21st...totally terrified!!! I was 7lbs14oz and SO was 10 so i figured he/she would be bigger.
this morning my baby was 7lbs 10oz.
