Last minute baby purchases.. what am I forgetting?

I know all a baby TRULY needs is a warm place to sleep and your boobs (or formula!).. so, all that is covered. And we have all the other nice-to-haves, leftover from DS. But is there anything that you've smacked yourself in the forehead over lately, saying 'ohmygosh I almost forgot ___!!!'..  anything? I feel like I'm forgetting things!

Re: Last minute baby purchases.. what am I forgetting?

  • I forgot the little head rest thing for the car seat...picked that up today.  A travel wipes case for the diaper bag, pacifiers, and burp cloths are on my list to grab tomorrow. How I didn't receive this stuff yet is beyond me.

  • Gas drops!

I passed them the other day in the store and thought about how many I had on hand when DD was little!

Glad I thought of it before I had a fussy, gassy baby!

  • Aaahh. gas drops!!! I forget, as the newborn phase is all a BLUR, but it is ok to use them on a baby that young? I remember using them when DS was a small baby, but no recollection of how little he was.....

Pacifiers! I need to wash/sterilize! thanks! I do plan to take as many Soothies from the hospital as I can though!

  • What are those one pads called that you put in the crib & it has sides so the space doesn't feel as open?  I need one of those & can't remember what it's called!

Is it a Nap Nanny?  I heard those were a SIDS no no.

  • No, it wasn't big like that. It had a flat bottom with triangle sides. I have to worst pregnancy brain ever right now!

Like this! I wonder if they are considered safe now though, I haven't had a baby in over 4 years lol

I think that's called a sleep positioner and they are also now considered a SIDS no no. Current recommendation is that all that goes in your crib is a fitted sheet and the baby.

sleep positioners.  they are all "discontinued" now because of the SIDS.

Funny you say that about the blankets, I had the same thought that I was going to receive a ton and only have received one!

Oops.....I don't have anything for burp cloths and I need an extra mattress pad.  Thanks for the reminder.

Are we suppose to get a separate head rest for the car seat?  I have the Chicco Keyfit 30 and there's a newborn insert already in it.  I thought you're technically not suppose to add additional parts to a seat due to safety issues.

I was thinking the one already in the seat would cover it, am I wrong?

I'm thinking we're all set.  But a PP above was saying she got a separate head rest.

  • tomorrow I'm going for burp cloths (we didn't get ONE!) and breast shells for me. I have a BRU coupon for 20% :)
  • The nurse in one of our classes told us that we weren't supposed to add anything else to the car seat for their heads.  Only reason to buy those was if you were going to use it in a stroller or something.
  • There is a light at the end of the tunnel for us! Finally!!! I need to get a mattress cover, changing pad cover, breast pump, baby tub, and a second carseat base for DH's car.

  • I have a few small things I need to pick up. First being blankets, I'm starting to think people just don't gift those anymore lol, glad to know I'm not the only one who didn't get any. I did get a ton of bibs though, oh and bath towels. I guess if worst comes to worst I can always wrap her up in a bath towel haha.

Anyway, I also need some pump accessories, sun shades for the car windows (So Cal sun can be brutal), some sheets for the PnP, and maybe one of those tummy time mats or play gyms. We're also considering a travel swing or bouncy seat. I know not all those items are necessary but they are things we would like to have and don't have yet.

As a side note, I have also heard not to get additional inserts etc. for car seats unless they are made by your seat manufacturer for your specific seat. Maybe OP's seat didn't come with an infant head support? I know mine has one so I'm not going to be getting another one.
