allergy shots? (nbr)

anyone get these?  I went to the allergist this morning ( i have a ton of food & environmental allergies) & they want to start me on allergy shots.  They benefits seem fabulous, but I am worried b/c there can be reactions (I've had anaphylactic reactions in the past)...so I'm just checking to see if anyone out there gets shots...and if so - do they help??

They do help, but it's a big time commitment.  For the initial buildup phase, you need to go get a shot every 3-14 days.  So, depending on how often you can make it, this can take 3-6 months if you never miss an appointment.

Then, there is maintenance for several years.

My allergist makes you wait 30 minutes after each shot to make sure you don't have a reaction.

I did allergy shots for 9 years beginning my sophmore year in high school. They helped tremendously. It is a time commitment, but for me it was worth it as I no longer need to be on shots and can regulate with over the counter allergy pills from time to time. I went from 6-8 sinus infections a year triggered by allergic reactions to the environment to maybe 1 a year.

Pretty much the same for me except I did them from age 8-15.
