As most of you know, MIL is a little BSC and isnt my favorite person to say the least. She hasnt been so bad lately but that is probably because she has been leaving me alone (knock on wood it continues!)
When we first announced we were expecting she went into a near panic trying to figure out what she wanted to be called. My parents are Mawmaw and PapPap to all of their grandkids and LO will have a Nana (my gma), a Nanny (DFs gma), a Goose (DFs great gma) and a Grandma (DFs gma, dads side). She didnt want LO to call her the same thing as anyone else so she was all bent out of shape trying to find the perfect name.
She finally settled that her and SFIL would be "MiMi" and "PawPaw", she really didnt want to have SFIL be "PawPaw" because thats what I call my gpa but she finally gave in.
MIL has been working on shirts for everybody to wear at the hospital (yes they are staking it out in the waiting room-grrrr) and put stuff like "Proud Auntie" on DFs sister's and "This is what a proud PawPaw looks like" on SFIL's. I laughed when I saw hers, its bright pink with a butterfly and bold black letters stating "Proud MeMe". I have never seen Mimi spelled like this but given her self absorbed-center-of-the-universe type tendancies Im not surprised.
Re: SMH at MIL- How Fitting...
Oh dear. I can only imagine the other people in the waiting room giving this group of overenthusiastic cheerleaders the side eye. You better make sure the nurses know to guard the door carefully! She sounds like the type to sneak in for a peek, if not properly supervised! G/L!
My folks have been trying to figure out nicknames too. My dad will be Nonno, because he's Italian, but I can't remember right now what my mom wanted. I thought it was kind of cute. Our baby is going to have 7 great grandparents (would have been 8, but my Nonno passed away a couple months ago), and 8 grandparents (due to divorces and remarriage), not to mention 3 aunties and 3 uncles.
I'm sure we will figure out how to avoid confusion somewhere along the line.
I've always felt that coming up with a preferred term is a waste of time because the kid always ends up using something else.
Our L&D actually lets you decide who is in the waiting room, not just who is in the delivery room. It is a secure floor.
Oh I work at the hospital I will be delivering at and the nurses are in on my "hospital policy" scheme. I am going to try not to call anyone until after shes born but my mom is going to be there with me and I dont think DF can keep his mouth shut. Ive explained that they will have to wait a loonnggg time because Im not allowing visitors til once Im showered and in a room and have had enough time with LO, tough titties! And if its like 3 am they will come back the next day, Im not staying up all night for them.
I was absolutely HORRIFIED when she showed them to me but Ive been trying to pick my battles so I didnt say anything. I just want to have this baby in stealth mode and keep them in the dark til after *sigh*
That is pretty funny. My kids call my mom "MeMe" and she spells it just like that...I'm not really sure how it ended up being spelled that though.
Don't be horrified. She's the one that's going to look like a lunatic while you are happily, calmly giving birth in a faraway room!
Why am I imagining Clark W Grizwold forcing his family to wear burets in European Vacation. As long as she doens't make you wear one - make somebody take lots of pictures so you can make fun of them later.
Oh man...I'm so sorry.
I don't even know what to say....
hehe, this whole thread is making me laugh so hard! Everyone in my family had to have their own names too! I am now trying to picture them in the waiting room with tshirts! LOL!!!!
The names they have are
Mom-Mom
Lola
Gee-Pa
Grandpa
GiGi (hahahahaha!!!!)
Grammi
Yaya
Pap-pa
Landon & Porter
1-10-07 & 5-11-11
Took the words out of my mouth....
