I was at the mall on Sunday and I saw a very pregnant young lady in a "insert city here" High School sweatshirt. Is it just me or am I just being a judgy b****? If I was pregnant high schooler I don't think I would be walking around the mall advertising that I am in high school. If she was in street clothes I would not have thought very much about it because I would have given her the benifit of the doubt that she is just a young look pregnant adult. Kids these day

Re: Pregnant in highschool
I don't see what the big deal is...
I just think it's sad that things like this happen at such a young age. Maybe it's just me but I waited until I was 18 to have sex. Not judging those of you who started younger it's just a personal choice.
I was scared to death to get pregnant in high school. Before I had sex after I graduated I made sure I was on birth control.
I guess I was just surprised that she was advertising that she was in high school, I had friends who were pregnant when I was in high school and they did everything they could to not look pregnant especially in public. There must not be as much of stigma to teen pregancy as there use to be, which to me is kinda unfortunate.
We just learned in my adolescent development psych class that the frontal cortex of the brain is still developing in teenagers and because of this they lack the ability to really plan ahead and think of the consequences of their actions, even though they know they can get pregnant they might not think of it when they make the decision to have sex.
I wear my high school hoodie all the time; I paid a fortune for it and it's still in great shape! I wore it all through my pregnancy. Even though I know I look young (I played a 14-year old in a live theatre show until 2 years ago), it never crossed my mind that people would be judging me and thinking I was a knocked-up teen. Now I'm sad.
But I guarantee I'll still wear that hoodie when I am expecting #2.
It's probably glamourous to have babies in highschool b/c of "16 and Pregnant" now.
At any rate, I'm not that perceptive. I probably wouldn't have even noticed. Even if I did ... I'm too tired to care.
I still have high school sweat shirts that I wear occasionally. I'm sure I get the side eye when I'm rocking the sweatshirt with a baby on my hip.
So, the pregnant teenager is supposed to hide in their room for 9 months? Gosh, why didn't the parents just ship her off to the mother homes and then she comes back and it's like it never happened?! The nerve.
So you think her parents should have sent her to a convent until her condition resolves itself?
Besides, as a high school administrator, my sister all but got sent to the principal's office by another teacher scolding her for being "tardy" when she was running late for work after dropping off her children at day care. Some people look younger than you think and have high school associations you might not be considering.
Unless you had a conversation with this girl in which she told you that she intentionally had a baby at the age of 15 and is counseling all her friends to do the same, I'd find something better to focus your energy on.
This is so true!! Teens can't see past the front of their own nose. He!!, some grown a$$ adults can't think ahead.
I'm very sad anytime I see a young, pregnant girl. They just don't know how hard it's going to really be. Also, a lot of boys don't stick around, so guess who's left with ALL the responsibility?? When that boy says he "loves" you he's really saying he loves what's happening between your legs.
I'm with the others that thought she was just looking young and wearing the sweater (those things are expensive! I still have mine!). I get confused for Isy's babysitter or sister all the time... drives me batty.
Even if she was pregnant in high school, who cares? Accidents happen. Its sad but I guess I'm desensitized because in my HS there were at least 5 every year between freshman and senior years.
Sh!t at 33 I was unprepared for how hard it was going to be!
Hahaha! Probably a lot of people!
Hah! Well, I had my twins at 20 (12 years ago), so I knew exactly what I was getting myself into this time!
THIS! I am only 24, so I still have lots of HS sweatshirts and things that I wore while pregnant as well!
1. I'm an extremely young-looking high school teacher and regularly wear my school's "spirit clothing." I am often mistaken by hall monitors for a student.
2. She may be a recent grad or just another young-looking adult wearing her old clothes.
This! I always wear my high school and college sweatshirts and I know I look like I'm 15, but who cares!
I am sure that I am digging myself a hole right now, but it doesn't hurt my feelings to get flamed:)
Okay, so I was being a b*** in my head then. (it is not like I went up to her and said "you hussy how dare you be at the mall," I didn't give her the side eye either)
Also I don't think you should have to hide in your house if you or pregnant and a teenager.
I was just asking opinions so I could see where you ladies were at and re-adjust my attitude. I just don't like the idea that being a pregnant teen is something cool.
First, who cares?
Second, I look so young and occasionally will wear a tee shirt from high school. I have a ton from the various clubs and sports I participated in. If you saw me you would most likely think I was a 17 year old with 2 kids.
She may have been 17 she may have been 25, either way it's her life and not yours.
Save your judgment for something that really matters.
Where in this thread did anyone say it was cool to be a pregnant teenager. I for one would guess it would be awful. I mean with all those people judging you...
Who said it was cool? All anyone said was that you were assuming something that you knew nothing about, and then you had to come on TB and basically say "THERE WAS A PREGNANT TEENAGER!" when, in fact, you didn't know if she was a teenager. The only "evidence" you had was her sweat shirt, which many PP confirmed that they, too, in their 20s + still have high school clothing.
Also, say she was a pregnant teenager, so, just because she's walking around the mall means that she thinks it's "cool"?
Wait, am I reading this right? This chick had on a high school shirt and was pregnant and you are just assuming she's in high school and therefore judging?
Yeah.... I'm thinking that's not so cool on your part OP. I look young and I still wear plenty of things from high school. I also couldn't wear my wedding ring at the end of pregnancy.
Even if she is pregnant and in high school, it's really none of your business, IMO.
The two men in my life. Oh, and I have a husband too...
This exactly. I still have several high school t-shirts and i'm 27. I probably wouldn't wear them out as they are old and ratty but I still have them nonetheless.
Totally off subject, but I love your LO's name. Isla was on our girl name list!
Okay I judge, bad me for judging.
So, now we all know that if you are pregnant and wearing a high school shirt regardless of your age I will be shaking my finger at you in my head because I cannot distinguish how old you are.
I will work on being less of a judgy b**** in the future.
I look young for my age, Im often asked how old I really am, Im 25..... Last year when I was (very) preg some of the only sweatshirts that fit me were my or my husbands old highschool ones..... So I guess, maybe she just looked really young? Even if she was, and is very pregnant - things happen.
Another good point - I also couldn't wear my wedding ring after about 7 months - so anytime I rocked a high school sweatshirt (I bought them all XXL so they always fit) and didn't have my ring on - I guess I was an unmarried pregnant high school student.
