Got him fitted for his Sure Steps ankle braces at the orthotist this morning (which he did NOT appreciate, lots of feet measurements) though his will be coming in camo, which we thought was pretty bad ass.

He needs lace up sneakers with a round toe box to wear with them at all times, so that means no sandals this summer unfortunately. Anyone know where I can find some for a toddler? No typical sneakers with the tread coming up over the toes.

Do you mean like a basic walking shoe?  I would check stride rite   I think it's the 'parker' style.

Yeah and the doctor said they want something more like a Vans shoe I guess with a sturdier material at the tongue of the shoe, not fabric like these.

I'd check again with his orthotist or therapist. They can tell you more specifically about shoe style and probably where you can go locally to have him fitted for shoes once the orthotics come in. I know the PT I used to work with had local recommendations for shoe places that worked well with kids wearing orthotics. And definitely wait to get shoes until the orthotics come in - he'll definitely go up a bit in shoe size and likely need a wider shoe too.

When Carter had his sure steps we bought the extra wide shoes at Payless.  They are UGLY but they fit in the insert and had a velcro closure to make it easier.

Vans are skateboard style shoes.  They are also wider which will probably work much better.

Skate shoes maybe?  Try Etnies or DC's.

Just read the comments and obviously i'm a little late.  But try TJ Max or Ross or those type of stores.  We have found skate shoes there for DS for pretty cheap.

My daughter had these too. It was what the physitrist recommended.
