Hi Everyone,
I'm not new, but it's been a long time. Hopefully no one remembers me because my old friends have moved onto paif! But hello either way. As a quick background we have MFI and my jerk kidneys leading us to IVF. I'm actually in the middle of an IVF cycle right now.. well.. sort of. Last BCP tomorrow. Yay! But I'm nervous and was hoping someone might have some answers for me. My fasting blood glucose test was normal, but my A1C is high and my insulin is pretty high. I asked my RE about metformin, but she said they don't use it because they haven't found it to help increase pregnancy rates. Has anyone else ever heard anything like this? I know so many women on met, and it was just a surprise to hear. I don't want my cycle to fail because my insulin is high, so I'm not sure what to do. Just wondering if anyone had any advice.
Thanks ladies ![]()

Re: Metformin Question
I think I am, too! And the RE has my tests from the endocrinologist. So I would've thought she'd want to do it. I know Met isn't great for people with kidney issues so maybe that's part of it, but I think my insulin was 20, which is way too high. Perhaps they're confused by my fasting sugar being normal? Oh well.
Thanks for the well wishes. I'm so excited!!

Baby Evangeline is here!
Hi there, hopefully i can answer you a little. I was prescribed metformin before I started my IVF stuff. I have polycystic ovaries (NOT pcos) and I very high antral follicle count. I was told that since I have so many antral follies, I have the potential for OHSS. In an effort to contain that and regulate my hormones, that was why I was on Metformin. It kind of balances everything out.
GL to you! And yes, I remember you. :-)
Thanks so much ladies for all of your help! i really appreciate it. I feel better now
