only 1 nursing tank enough for in hospital?

I bought just one nursing tank for the hospital and then was going to get nursing bras for after I got home and saw what size i needed (since my boobs really haven't changed much in size, I don't know what is going to happen). Is just one nursing tank enough?

Also, do I need to take lanolin or breast pads or will the hospital provide that?

Edit: and how many outfits did you take for your husband? 2 plus pjs? We don't live near the hospital so he can't run home. I was thinking for him- 1-2 pairs jeans, 2 shirts, flip flops, sweatshirt, and 2 pjs. is that enough?

  • I'm bringing 3 nursing tanks & two pairs of yoga pants.

DH will be going home at night to shower and sleep...so I'm not any help with that.

  • How long is a typical hospital stay where you deliver? I'll only be in 1 or 2 days, and I don't mind wearing a hospital gown with my own robe while I'm in... so one tank is plenty for me. And one change of clothes for DH is more than he'll likely need.

Things are different if you'll likely stay longer.

  • We live pretty close to our hospital, but I was going to get 2 nursing tanks and bring one to the hospital. I was also going to bring my lanolin, just in case.

For my husband, I was going to bring him a pair of jeans, a pair of sweats/pj pants, and 3 shirts.

  • Keep in mind that you might have to be in the hospital for longer than you expect if there are any complications or you have a cesarean.  Since you said your husband can't run home for other things, you might want to pack more than one top for postpartum.

I just wore the hospital gowns postpartum.  They were great for nursing and there was always a supply of clean ones.

I didn't need any lanolin or breast pads until I got home.  My milk hadn't come in yet while I was in the hospital so nothing was leaking.  My nipples didn't feel sore until I went home either.  I think the hospital should have both of those things on hand if you need them, but might as well throw them into your bag.

With DS I thought I'd be in for 1 or 2 days but wound up with an unplanned c section and I'm SO glad that i had extra clothing. By day 1 I was over the hospital gown. Pretty much after I was cleared to shower I didn't want to wear hospital gowns anymore.

i wore nursing tanks and sweat pants and just slept in them at night. It was easier and less painful to change into pajamas.

  • I ended up with a c-section (not planned) so I stayed in my hospital gown since I didn't have much in the way of "comfy" clothes.  I was in 4 days so my milk did come in--- pads are definitely needed although they can give you stuff too.  They gave me lanolin---and you'll need it.  They will want your baby sucking as much as possible to encourage flow---so that helps.
