anyone else annoyed with nicknames being given to their little one?

Its a good possibility that its moodiness... but I have been super annoyed with the nicknames that I have heard when family/friends are talking to my belly! Haha I know it sounds ridiculous. Our little girls name is going to be Leighton Olivia (Olivia after my maiden name Oliver)

So far shes been called

"libby"

"liv"

"livvy"

"leight"

and my personal number one annoyance ....."lei lei" as in "lay lay"

Anyone else's baby getting laughable nicknames from family?

  • No idea how it happened, but my coworkers are calling my belly "Mookie"...

    Speechless...

  • when we first picked her name a coworker referred to her as "Little Finn". They got the side eye which put a stop to that real quick. Ocassionally DH will say it and I tell him "don't call her that" and he says "oh yeah"...lol. He doesn't like it either but it just slips...

  • AGHHH Yes!  People have started calling him "Marky" I realize there aren't many nicknames for Mark, but that is NOT an option....

  • At least they are not trying to change your LO's name!! We are naming DS Jack. We have always loved it and pretty much knew if we had a second DS his name would be Jack. Well the other day my MIL says to me, "I keep on calling him Jake, you should change it to Jake" And she was being 100% serious!

Surprise haha! I think i would have to speak up about this one.

  • People keep calling my LO JR, which I HATE!  I make it clear that it's not OK with me or MH, but people do it anyway.

  • We are not 100% on a name so the nickname that WE use is used. (Little G)

And my daughter calls him squash. LOL Has since about 15 weeks.

Our son (Liam) does not have a nickname besides Buddy (or bud) or Liam John.

Our daughter is called Babe (by me only) and Em or Emmy (her name is Emmalee)

IF we use our top choice, baby will be Aiden. No real way to shorten that! LOL

You would be surprised! My 4 year old is Aidan and we actually have a family member who I have heard call him "aids" . I wanted to scream....he is a child not a disease.

  • Because we aren't telling, my coworker has started calling LO Mathilda. I don't mind that name, I just hope she calls her by her real name and not Mathilda when she gets here. Also, my step-mom keeps calling the baby squiggles. It was never squiggles, before we knew we were having a girl, we called the baby squirmy. She never gets names right, she still calls my husband Justin, when his name is Dustin.

  • Well we have a name picked but aren't sharing it with family. Well my IL's came up with a nickname and shared it with my family at the shower. I am so sick of it. Hopefully it won't stick.

  • We haven't told anyone our name yet, so my mom nicknamed her Petunia. She thinks that goes well with my puppy's name: Betsy.

Everyone, including her, says the nickname is going to stick even after she arrives.

    It better not.

  • We are naming our baby Molly. No one has even tried to shorten it or nickname her in any way. Except me. And I just call her "mo mo" when I am talking to her. My husband hates it. Oh well, I haven't said it in public yet so hopefully it won't go farther than it has. I also hope that I'll stop using it once she is born!

  • We aren't sharing names, however, SIL decided to nick name our LO 'cupcake' until I bluntly told her that she can pick nicknames for her own children, not mine. (This was after trying to gently tell her for quite some time.....she doesn't clue in.) Then FIL (who's name is Ernest) thought it would be funny to refer to her as Ernistine.....PUKE! He hasn't got the hint either, every time he says it I give him a dirty look and call LO something else (usually little one or baby or she etc.) Say what you will while she's inside I suppose because once she is born people will not be nicknaming her stupid things in front of me. The more people do it the more annoyed I get as well...

  • My mom calls my 4 month old nephew a Polish nickname- from an old children's story- it's pronounced something like Peem-poosh.  I hate it.  She was calling my LO that and I tried to tell her that she can't call her grandkids the same thing- it didn't work.  However once we found out we were having a girl she said Pimpusz is a boy's name and she needs to think of a new one.  She hasn't come up with one yet, thankfully.  Funny thing is my sister hates the nickname too, but I guess she's on her own though to get my mom to stop using it!

  • We have a name picked out but we have kept it a secret. Even DH and I don't use it. We call him by another name as a joke. Some of our friends and family know the fake name and use it. My dad mispronounces it on purpose and it drives me crazy. My FIL calls the baby Bubba which is also annoying.

But I must admit that after all this fake name calling, it will be weird to call him by his real name in just a couple months!!

  • It doesn't bother me. Or rather, if I let it bother me I would go crazy. My family is big on nicknames.
  • All our friends and family call the baby Spartacus. Even tell other friends and family that is HER name.

It mostly definitely is NOT. But that is the middle name DH wanted if it was a boy, and now it has just stuck. LOL.

I don't let it bother me. I call her Alisha (her name).

  • YES-- this drives me nuts-- esp since we haven't picked a name

My mother calls her "Trixie" and tried to say it was going to be her special name for the baby even later-- I've tried to be gentle about "no it won't" but I have a feeling I'll have to get firmer...esp since she mentioned getting it painted on something- NO WAY

My cousin calls her "Millie"-- no idea why

DH calls her the name he likes... I dont love it...

I call her "fatty" just to annoy them all :) She's measuring about a pound ahead of schedule :)

  • DD #1 is named Madeleine, which is a name DH and I both love.  His family refuses to call her by this and always calls her Maddie.  I understand that it is a nickname for Madeleine but to me her name is too beautiful to shorten.

With DD#2 I am trying so hard to come up with a name you cannot shorten.

  • I just hate the fact that people are calling her by her name. She's not here yet and the tech didn't very confident when she said it was a girl so I wouldn't be surprised if the baby turns out to be a boy.

Plus it aggravates me tremendously that my mom keeps calling her Lily Marie like that's her full first name. If it's definitely a girl her name will be Lillian. Her nickname will be Lily but there is no reason to add her middle name.
