Bad hip pain at night

For about the past week I wake up in the middle of the night with really bad pain in my right hip. I'm not sleeping any differently than I have before so I don't know what it is from. Could it be my pelvis moving and possibly making my hip hurt? I don't know. Anyone else experience this and how did you get relief?

Re: Bad hip pain at night

  • Its most likely your hips widening to prepare for LO to join the world! :)  I get the same pains too, mostly when I'm sleeping at night. The below is a link to some stretches I do each night for a few minutes right before I go to bed. It's very helpful!

  • I had this problem when I was pregnant with DD.  It helped me a lot to sleep with the Boppy body pillow between my knees.

  • It's pretty awful some nights. I alternate between a squishy pillow between my knees and sleeping on my back with several pillows propping me up.

  • It's the relaxin hormone doing its thing. The only relief I found was to use a body pillow at night. However, it doesn't make it go away completely, just staves off a few hours of it at night.

  • I got this at about 16-17 weeks and then it got better and now its back at 21 weeks.  Sleeping on top of really soft fluffy pillows is the only way I can get some relief to fall back asleep but it still hurts a little.

  • Boppy time it is! Thanks ladies!!

  • Does it spread a little down your leg too? I get horrible sciatica pain on my right side when DS joins us in bed (horrible sleeper, up multiple times every night) because I stiffen up and can't relax) Usually, what works for me is getting off my right side and sleeping on my left instead. When pregnant with DS I only got a hint of it - the snoogle helped a lot.
