From what Ive heard (this is completely non-scientific) - the swollen, bruised crotch pain comes from the loosening of muscles and ligaments in our lady bits, preparing our bodies to push out a baby.... So when you sit for longer periods of time, and then stand up and move around, it will hurt more than if you are on your feet all day.
I try to get up and move around, even if its just to grab a drink of water, or stretch out a bit every 20minutes or so.... It definitely results in less pain than what I feel in the AM when I first wake up.
I also see a chiroprator. Since Ive been goingto the chiropracter three weeks ago, Ive noticed considerably LESS pain in my sciatica, as well as less pain in the groin region!
Ditto what the other's have said...getting up to move around more frequently. I also am shameless to admit that I fill up a hot water bottle and put it on my poor aching crotch in the evening when I'm lounging in the recliner. It does provide temporary relief.

this being my 4th baby, i can confidently tell you that there is really nothing you can do to stop the pain
try making sure you're not in the same position for too long, but other than that, it's pretty much unavoidable...
