Who's doing it? I hadn't even looked in to it but as I was reading through my puree "cookbook" I was realizing that with how DH and I eat, it would be really easy to just have C eat what we do most of the time. We eat healthy, lean meats, lots of fruits and veggies, whold grains...lol half the stage 2 and 3 recipes were simplified versions of stuff I would make anyway.
So it got me thinking that once I've introduced him to more foods over the next few weeks I might make a few frozen purees to have some basics on hand but that for dinners especially I may just have him eat what we do a lot. Especially since that way he would get his iron from meat instead of cereal--it sounds like that's better, right?
What are the pros and cons to BLW? Any good resources? It seems pretty common sense...avoid the specific foods he shouldn't have until a year, make sure he gets a variety, avoid choking hazards, and...am I missing something? All I know about it is what I read on here.
Re: S/O BLW
I'm waaay too lazy to make purees, so we'll do it with DS2. We did it with DS2, and it worked out well, so we'll do it again. We started with big chunks of soft fruit or veggies, and I think I'll try meat or fish with DS2, also. This is a good link: https://www.borstvoeding.com/voedselintroductie/blw/engels.html
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
We do it. I found the book by Gill Rapley very helpful.

The only con for me was that DD did gag more often in the early days, and that can be nerve racking. If you read about the gag reflex (it's actually much higher in young babies and moves to the back of the throat as they get older), it makes it easier to handle.
Oh, and it's messy. DD often needs a bath after dinner.
Pros - everything. It's easier. DD is in control of what she puts in her mouth, so she's learning how to moderate her food intake from the start. I'm constantly amazed by how well she does.

We are doing BLW and loving it. I started a few weeks ago because DD was able to sit unassisted and was showing major interest in food. The only con for me is that you don't really know how much they are getting, but you just have to trust that they are still getting most of their nutrients from breast milk (or formula). I'm sure DD will eat more as she gets better at it. Right now it's viewed pretty much as play time (with the exception of broccoli--she eats that up)! The other downside is the possible gagging. DD did this once and it wasn't bad at all, she just spit out the offending piece of food and went on about her eating.
The pros are endless IMO.
Here she is eating some avacado
DD is also in daycare. We started only offering food at dinner with us or occasionally at breakfast if we have time. She just started eating lunch at daycare a couple weeks ago (so around 8 months). There was no reason that she had to have solid foods there.

We are basically doing a combo of BLW and purees. Since she's in daycare, I felt better about sending purees because I didnt feel right about making them "deal with" the mess of BLW! But at home we do purees and also give her what we are eating. The other night she had mashed potatoes and asparagus
