Tap water?

I just read on myfoxphilly.com that the iodine levels in Philly are among the highest in the country due to the nuclear problems in Japan. Regardless of how true this may be, I was just wondering if anyone in Philly drinks the tap water? I have been for the last few months, but now I"m wondering if it's actually safe to drink.

We have a water dispenser on our fridge that has a filter, but the water comes out so slowly it literally takes 4 minutes to fill a medium glass. I started drinking the tap water, since I've been trying to increase my water intake. Should I consider a water delivery service, like Deer Park?

Thoughts???

Re: Tap water?

  • Before you go for bottled water, know which to avoid. You can look up different water bottle ratings at https://www.ewg.org/bottled-water-2011-home or https://www.ewg.org/2011-bottled-water-search-page

It is safest to have your water tested then get a filter that will eliminate those elements or chemicals from your tap water. EWG's site is a great place to start and an excellent resource.

  • Also, you should be getting an annual water report from your water company.  If you haven't gotten one, or just want a copy, contact them and they will send one out to you.  It will list the EPA action levels for certain chemicals and the level your water tested at and on which date the test was taken (the EPA doesn't require some things to be tested as often as others).
