Another car seat question RE: britax

If I buy a britax roundabout 55 instead of a marathon 70 will I go from that to a backless booster?  Is the extra $80 for an additional 15 lbs worth it?  Becuase I can get the booster for like $30 when needed.  Am I missing a car seat step in here?  How many frickin car seats do I need to go through?  I have to for sure buy 2, maybe 3 and I can't spend $1000 on car seats.

ETA: I will be going with Britax, I just can't decide which one.

Re: Another car seat question RE: britax

  • It depends on the size of your baby.  Mine will be able to go to a backless booster from the roundabout because she's tiny.  The rule on boosters is 4 years and 40 pounds, but it's safer to keep them harnessed as long as possible.  If your baby is on the bigger end I'd go with the marathon.

  • I went with the Roundabout & will go up to a backless booster when he outgrows the Roundabout if he's ready for it.  If not, I'll get whatever car seat he needs.

  • My 3 year old has almost outgrown the Boulevard, height-wise, but he's very very tall.  Now I need to buy a high-weight harness (Britax Frontier - another $200ish!) before a booster.

    Kinda annoying!

17lbs last Thurs.  I have no idea on height.  She was 24 3/4 in at her 4 month but has since outgrown sleepers in length.  I don't know if that is big or not?  We have her 6 month on the 27th, so I'll see where she is percentile.

So the frontier goes higher in weight and height?  Is it RF?  I wonder if I should just go with this then.

Nooo, unfortunately it's FF only!  That's what is such a pain.  I'd find one with as high as height limit as possible.  Most kids will outgrow the height first.

  • My almost 8 year old only weighs about 55lbs.. she is in a booster. Honestly it depends on the size of your kid, and how long you want to keep them in a harness vs. a booster.
