June 2011 Moms

Did anyone else hit the 30 week freak out?

I am freaking out now I'm hitting that 30 week mark, which is weird because I've been as cool as a cucumber before hand.  Now I'm freaking because we haven't painted the baby room (we live in MN and have only just been able to open windows this weekend), there is no date set for my family's baby shower, we need to install fan's in 2 rooms, the hallway needs decorating, the floor needs finishing, I need to shampoo the carpets, my sister is coming in August (I'm from England and she is coming with my 3 nephews to visit), the car broke down and needs repairing, I'm busy with work, money, then my Dad's over in October..... I'm freaking out about getting everything done in the next 10 weeks and the fact that I don't see myself ever being able to relax again for the next 18 years!!!!  Please tell me that I'm not alone here!

  • You are SO not alone!  I freaked out a teensy bit the day I hit 30wks, and yesterday I completely lost it.  I had my first baby shower Saturday and I was sitting in the living room looking at all the baby stuff with a stack of blank thank you notes and was like "Holy crap this is really happening!"  I was looking at one of the babies on the wrapping of some toy and told DH, "we're about to have one of these!"  Lol....I know he thought I had lost my marbles!  I totally freaked about having the nursery ready and our to do list completed, about the fact that we're VERY close to having another human being rely on us for the rest of our lives, etc.  I can't offer any advice but can definitely say that you're not alone!

  • lol, I've been hitting the 30 week freak out for the past 3 weeks! I feel like I'm never going to get everything done. Which probably means I need to reevaluate my to do list...

  • I am not there yet (I'm 28w5d today) but for me, 30 weeks is a big milestone, not sure why!  I guess it feels like I've been in the 20s forEVER and I know that at the end of the 30s I get a baby!

In terms of the to-do list, start with the things you can do now.  The rest can wait.  :-)  Baby won't mind if the hallway isn't decorated!

  • Freak out yes, but this is also the first time that I've been genuinely excited. I can't wait to meet my little guy, and it is so close!

Our main worry is money, so that's kind of a stress that never really goes away.

But just do what you can when you can. Focus on one day at a time.

  • Mine was more the 31 week freak out. On Saturday I realized in 9 weeks I will have a child I am fully responsible for. And the fact that I still have to wash ALL his baby clothes, bedding, etc. Steam clean the carpets and still clean out our spare room for when my mom and sister (and 2 nephews) come at the beginning of June. And then add ontop the fact that DH will be gone for the majority of the next 3 months didn't help with my little freak out.
  • HA! definitely not alone.

We were hoping to have at least listed in FEBRUARY and found a new house so we could be MOVING by now. We'll list probably next week, and while we think we've found a new home we're hoping HOPING that they'll accept a contingent offer and our place will sell quickly.

BIG wishful thinking in this market.

10 weeks is probably plenty of time, but yes...there is a definite freak out inside me going on right now.

plus my check engine light came on this weekend...aiyiyi...

  • I'm starting to think something is seriously wrong with me because I'm not in the least bit concerned.  I still have some finishing up to do in the baby's room and I'll wait until after my shower in 3 weeks before washing all clothes and linens.

If I were you I'd re-evaluate that list.  Prioritize things from top to bottom and go from there.  I doubt anyone is going to notice that the hallways isn't decorated and you'll need something to do while on maternity leave.

  • I am more excited than nervous now. Even though our nursery isn't finished yet I know it will get done so I am not worried about that. I did have a freak out a few weeks ago because nothing had been done to the nursery but once I started doing a little bit each day then things got better. Just take a step back, make a list of things that you think HAVE to be done for baby and then do the other things when you find time. I'm sure your family members will understand that you are having a baby so the house want completely be put together for a while.

  • My freak-out= me getting angry that things are progressing! The nursery was painted 2 or so months ago but the carpet (which I hate but we can't afford to get it replace right now) needs to be cleaned and tha'ts really the big hold up.

The crib is not assembled, we have no crib bedding (hoping to get this at the baby shower), no glider, etc. We still have a twin bed in the room and an old dresser..both need to be removed! On top of that, we realized two weeks ago that we really need to paint the inside of both closets as well as get both closet doors fixed! UGH! Needless to say at almost 31 weeks I'm angry and want things to get a move on!

So my first phone call today will be to schedule a carpet cleaning...hopefully for this coming weekend!

  • Nope... I'm only 29 weeks and I'm starting to freak out. I feel like a bad parent for not having anything ready for my LO. I just hope I can pull it together before he gets here...

  • hahaha. I freak out all the time. Mostly about having a little human being person to take care of. Especially when I'm super tiered, or when my laundry pile gets out of control, or my house looks like I never clean it. I can't help but think, "if you think its bad now wait for LO to get here." I guess all we can do is take it one day at a time.

  • Thanks, I'm pleased i'm not the only one freaking out.  To add to my freaking, DH's car broke down and it's pretty much screwed, so our savings are now going to be depleted buying a new car.  Grrr it never rains but it pours!  I'm having a major pitty party today

  • I freaked out at 28 weeks...Then because I couldn't get anything done at the time, I had a break down at 30 weeks....So yeah, it's pretty typical.

  • I, too, had a 'moment' at 30 weeks. Then, to my surprise I had another one yesterday at 32 weeks when I did the math and realized that's only 8 weeks left, LESS than 2 months. I can see potential 'moments' happening at 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 weeks....lol
