Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Herbs and a sick 7 month old

With family outta state and their 3 year ol is sick. They were giving him Sambucus- a mixture of elderberry and echinacea. The bottle says for 1+. But I was wondering if anyone had given it their babies? Or is there an immune booster your pedi reccomended? Or other things to ease cold symptoms other than Tylenol?

  • DS has gotten echinacea during his most recent cold.  It kicked it pretty quickly.  I informed our Pedi of what he was getting and she basically said "while there is no proof it works, there is also no harm in echinacea."  She then admitted to taking it herself.  Our bottle says 1+ too, but since he is 22lbs we decided it was OK.  Since most recommendations are based on a weight/age.

  • I haven't had to use it with Katy but I have with my other two before they turned a year.  we hardly ever go to the dr. except for well baby visits.  I've been doing sage with Katy if she's sick.  It acts as a natural decongestant.  I mix 1/8 of a tsp with some BM or water and give it to her in a dropper every 3-4 hours.
