Hi,
DH and I both like the name Rex. We really want a strong boy name, but not something that a friend or family member already used. We have 5 boys among our friends due this year alone. Rex means King, seems masculine and easy to spell and certainly not common. But I know a lot of people associate it with a dog. What do you think?
TIA
Re: Opinions on Rex
It seems to me a lot of people are polarized on this name. Me, personally...I really like it. I wouldn't use it myself, but I consider it a "guilty pleasure" name.
Thumbs up from me.
I don't get the whole "dog name" thing myself... I am pretty sure that currently the most popular names for male dogs are Jake and Max and those get used plenty on human children as well
Maybe it's because I was a psychology major, but all I think of Oedipus Rex.
I also think it would make a much better name for a dog, than a person.

It's a common name in my very southern family. I like it personally but wouldn't use it. I definitely get the "dog name" thing but I wouldn't let that deter me. It's not like you're naming the kid Buster.
I think it's a super strong masculine name. I also know a 6 yr old boy named this and it fits him so well.

DO IT! I love me some X's in the name haha, has to do with being TeXan I guess
Oh, and my dog's name is MaX, and I'm MeXican LOL!!I literally JUST made that connection.
I have to agree

Rex is my husband's name and while I love him very much I don't like his name. We have been countless places where we have heard someone call out the name Rex only to find a dog running up to them. When I was in my classroom I said, "Oh this is for Rex" and one of my students said "Why would you give that to your dog?" Growing up he hated it. In school he was teased and called "Sexy Rexy".
I know teasing happens all the time with any name. I also know that people are naming their dogs all kinds of weird things, but having a personal experience with this name I wanted to share.
I have teased him for years that if we ever get a dog I want to name it junior.

Hate it for a child. But my friend went with it and her LO is adorable. She is constantly b!tching about all the comments about LO's name (when she was pg and even now that he is almost 2) and I want to say, well, you did name him Rex...
I think you should pick the name you like (not the one I do or other bumpies) but be prepared for name comments from time to time if it is a strange/dog/dinosaur-like name
This!!
