Yes I said weaners because I think I'm funny. What was the first food you gave LO? I want to use the mesh feeder. I was thinking apples, but do I need to steam them first? We tried the traditional rice cereal, she tried grabbing the spoon and if I wouldn't let her grab it she refused to open up. I think she might want to feed herself, wouldn't you say? I've done some research on it, so I'm really mostly interested in your experiences and which sites you find most helpful/informative. TIA!

Re: Baby Led Weaners...
DS's was Vegetable Curry Stew. He sipped some broth and chewed on some eggplant.
I'd honestly skip the mesh feeder. DS actually does better without it, and it kind of defeats some of the benefits of BLW. I have some info in my blog about BLW.
If you do apples, I'd lightly bake or steam them, especially if you do use the mesh feeder. You can choose just about any fruit or veggie though. DS loves carrots, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and okra.
We aren't 100% baby led weaning (mostly because I don't want to miss out on the experience of feeding her... I'm selfish like that!) but we don't use a mesh feeder and just give her little bits of whatever we're having fruit or veggie-wise as long as its been lightly cooked or steamed a little since she doesn't have any teeth and don't want to throw it at her so hard lol.
She really likes steamed carrots!
I read your blog! I gave her one of those baby mum mum rice rusks, they're rice crackers that dissolve in baby's mouth and she did really well with that, but it scared me a little because she would sometimes gag and I wasn't sure if maybe she wasn't ready for those or if it's because she has a cold and was getting some drainage down the back of her throat. So that's what led me to want to try the mesh feeder, but I see what you're saying with losing out on some of the BLW benefits. I'm going to talk to her pedi at her 6 month check up on Tuesday.
Thanks everyone for your input!
