Baby Names

Le-ah

My MIL had a customer who had named her daughter this. I thought you would pronounce it like Leah but apparently you don't.

Its actually pronounced "La-Day-Shah" You pronounce it as if its spelled Ledashah (you actually pronounce the "-"). Ick!

  • What a coincidence, my baby-sitter's uncle's dog walker knows someone who knows someone who named their kid the same thing

  • There was just a thread on one of the other boards (TTGP maybe?) about bad baby names and this one (shockingly) came up.  Again.  What floored me was that there was a whole group who were like "OMG that is hilarious!".  I wanted to ask if they had been living under a rock for their whole lives.  Somewhere out there La-a is living with Lemonjellow and Orangello.

And yes, I guess we must see this name every day.  And I love how it is NEVER the first person.  Always their husband's co-workers kid who is in Kindgarten and knows a 6th grader whose mother has that name.  Confused

No more TTC for us. We are done, and at peace, as a family of 4.

  • Ah, the La-a story reminds me that racist attitudes are alive and well in America. Thanks for that.

    This.

  • I actually had a resident claim they had a patient with this name yesterday. I am trying to be nice at work as this is a new position. It took everything in me to not call her on it!

I am an active TTGP poster and I felt the same. I didn't care enough to point them in the direction of  Baby Names. I just shook my head.

  • Ladies we forgot La-a's BFF whose parents didn't speak English and when the hospital put the baby's sex and last name on the hospital bracelet and the parents thought that their baby was named Female (Fe-mal-ay)
