If you dye your hair

I have only dyed my hair once this pregnancy, right after my first trimester I had my highlights and base touched up, nothing touched my scalp.  However, I now have a huge patch of gray on the left side of my head (embarassing since I am only 28!! I will just blame that on bed rest too).  My question is, have you had your whole head done?  Did your doctor have anything to say about it?

Re: If you dye your hair

  • I haven't had my whole head done...just highlights. But it is safe to do your whole head. I wouldn't be concerned. Go get yourself beautified!!

  • I've done my whole head 3 or 4 times.  My doc had no opinion on it and from everything I've read, it's perfectly fine.

  • I have had highlights, both pregnancies. Doctor sees nothing wrong with it.
  • I have had my whole head done (well roots) the whole pregnancy. I am not worried about it.

  • I have had my whole head done a couple of times and the midwives were fine with it.  They were the ones who told me that hair color, baths, etc. are perfectly okay to do.

This is what my hairdresser recently told me.   I had been holding out because of the possible risks, but hadn't even thought about how the pregnancy hormones could effect how the color ended up.   But it's only a couple more months.  Can't imagine if I spent all that money on color and it turned out weird.

  • I dyed my hair (after the first trimester) throughout my frist pregnancy.  I'm a natural dark blonde but I like how I look better with a redish brown hair.

I have dyed my hair during this pregnancy as well.  I just try to keep it away from my roots as much as possible. (since I dye my own hair) But if you go to the salon and tell them your pregnant and you want to keep the dye away from your roots and scalp they will be more then happy to oblige.

Neither of the OBs I have been too were overly concerned about hair dye...as long as you waited until after the first trimester.

ALL OF THIS! i have even colored my own hair a few times this pregnancy(even in first trimester when i didnt know i was pregnant yet) it is perfectly fine to color your hair and for haircolor to touch your scalp back in the day EVERYTHING was a no no but they didnt have everything we do today to see what was really ok and what wasnt
  • I don't do whole head but it is safe.  I would just make sure to have it done at a salon :)

    this!

I had a few grey hairs pop up here and there. And I needed those suckers taken care of!

  • Just thought I would add this: the concern over coloring your hair never had to do with coming in contact with the dye itself; it is with the fumes from all of the chemicals. That is why almost every doctor will say it is fine to do, so long as you are in a well ventilated area :)

Ditto. I think it's one of those things that people over-think when it's really not a big deal.
