Unexpected benefits of pregnancy - PIP

I'm curious to see what other people have come across during their pregnancies that they didn't really expect, be it special parking, a more caring DH, or bonus physical improvements, like me.

My nails are healthier and longer than they've ever been.

Pardon the blurry cell phone pics, but after having been a nail-biter for years, and having previously had brittle nails, this is a pretty big deal for me.

  • I haven't really had any physical benefits. But this surprise pregnancy really made me realize how wonderful my bf/fiance was/is. I never fully let go of how much of a jacka$$ my ex-husband was, so I always expected the worst. I expected to be treated worse b/c I was carrying his child, and to my ex that would've reinforced ownership. My now fiance is so incredible. If I don't clean, he doesn't care, and if I do he's so sweet and appreciative. He's genuinely excited about ultrasounds, OB appts, and birthing classes. He did a complete 180 from when we were first together. He was never a bad bf btw, he was just so scared of taking that next step. Now he's more excited than I am about getting married and having kids and building a life.

  • My nails are awesome, and my hair is growing like crazy. I had it cut super short when I got pregnant, and planned to keep it short. But after I saw how fast it was growing I decided to take advantage of it and see how long it would grow before LO gets here. I now have a cute bob! I am even able to get it in a pony tail now.

I have also learned how knowledgeable and understanding MH is re: pregnancy, particularly the insane hormones.

And our apartment manager finally agreed to fix an issue we have had with our parking space. It is on the end of the lot and there is dirt on the drivers side of my car, which turns to mud when it rains. I slipped once and ended up covered in mud. Once I got pregnant he seemed to think it was finally important, although it hasn't been done yet, it has been raining a lot here, and not a good time to lay cement. I am trying to stay optimistic that this is why it hasn't been done, and not that he s a slacker. Maybe, I will make a point to waddle back and forth in front of his apartment from time to time  Wink

    That's an AMAZING benefit!

    Yes

  • I wish my hair was growing faster. It's mainly just my nails.

  • I sort of always had a chip on my shoulder about the fact that my Dad never took me away from my Mom (she is/was a drinker).  I have always felt bad about that. I never would have said anything to him, because what is the point? You can't change the past.  Well all the reflection on my own upcoming motherhood must have got my Dad thinking and at some point he brought it up on his own.  My Dad NEVER apologizes but he apologized about it and explained why.  (If you are interested lots of reasons but main one being the initial custody battle was so awful, it never even occurred to him that he stood a chance in a court room.)  My Dad and I already had a good relationship but it is really nice to have resolution on that.  As I enter parenthood, it means a lot to fully trust one of my own parents, but moreover I thought this was something I would carry to my grave. I feel relieved of a burden.
  • Improved scalp health.  I've had major problems with dry scalp in which NOTHING seemed to help.  That is until now.  I really think it's the pre-natals.  I plan on continuing them post pregnancy too.
  • NO benefits here...just misery! Glad you all have some positive things though! I am just looking forward to the end, again. :)

This!!! I knew DH would be a great father... he was very excited to have a baby from the beginning.  However, I didn't expect him to be this wonderful.  He's been working his butt off between his work schedule and at home to get this house baby-ready.  Friday, I was having just a harmonal cranky day, and he came home from work early with roses to spend the rest of the day with me because he was worried about me.  I felt like a lucky girl the day I married him, but I love him even more as the days get closer to our due date.

As far as physical, definitely my nails are looking better.  I could do without the extra veins I'm noticing in my legs (gross!).

  • With my first pregnancy, I had the most terrible acne ever, so it's very ironic that with my 2nd AND this one, I have had the clearest skin of my life!

My immune system is super powered- though it's probably the prenatals.  Usually I get sick 3-4 times every winter (with more little colds here and there), like if someone sneezes within a 50 foot radius of me, somehow I'll catch it.  This year I haven't even had one cold.

  • I've seen DH get more and more helpful with DS over the last few weeks now that it really is getting hard for me to do certain things. He reminds me to go to bed so I'm not so tired the next day.

My hair is also growing out of control fast and thick!

  • Pretty nails indeed!

Soft skin for me! All that shea butter and Vitamin E are so good for my skin. I do also see the "glow" people talk about sometimes. I used to have combination skin now it's evened out and no breakout whatsoever whereas I get one here and there occasionally!

  • Nails are defiantly become a bonus for me, they are so much stronger and grow really fast, I tend to have to cut them at least once a week before they get too long!

My hair has grown but slowly it has taken forever and that was the one thing I was hoping would happen.

Though on a plus side my leg hair has grown back really slow and I think I have had to shave them twice this whole pregnancy which is great

  • Ohh pretty! I love manicured hands!!!

Nothing really beneficial here, just feeling the most healthiest I've ever been :)

  • With all honesty - the best part has been that I have been totally accepting of my body since becoming pregnant. I own the bump and the bigger boobs and I am not self conscious about it at all. I feel like I have been self conscious about my body since 11 y/o and it feels good to not think about it as long as I am being healthy and good to body and baby.

  • Wow your nails are beautiful!  I would say the tenderness from DH, we are naturally a playful couple but I'm loving being his princess during my pregnancy.  That and I love that strangers smile at me and the belly :)
  • Multiple Sclerosis REMISSION!!! Feels great.
  • i was only thinking this over the weekend!!!! I've never been able to gow my nails and now i have this perfect nails - i don't know what to do with them....

as well as the nails my hair is so thick - i've usually got really thing hair, but for the last few months it has been thick and shiney!!!

i'll be sad when it starts to malt out and i go back to thin dull hair :(

  • Nails all the way. Normally my nails don't grow for crap and when they do they break VERY easily.  Mine are long like yours right now.  I even put some clear polish on them and glitter on the tips because I'm so proud of them.  I admire them at least once a day.

DH also says my skin is even softer than usual.  I mean, he's always thought it was soft but even more so now I guess.  I don't feel a big difference but he does.
