Just curious how long you did rice cereal for?
What did you do next?
and last question....
When did you start 2 meals a day?
DD is 5 1/2 mos old. Going to be starting rice cereal soon. I was grateful for the post below because I didn't know BM would make the cereal more watery. Perhaps I should do oatmeal right after the rice cereal.
TIA

Re: How long did you do just rice cereal for?
We did oatmeal for four days before starting veggies (sweet potatoes). She has already had peas, carrots, bananas and apples.
When I was at her six-month appointment on Monday, the pedi said we should go ahead and start her on three meals.
The nighttime meal helped immensely with her STTN (she went form STTN to waking up twice a night) and I think daytime meals have helped with naps.
We never did rice cereal, we started with oatmeal. I followed the directions on the box and it was really watery the first time. It was messy, but they have to get used to it first and you don't want them to choke if it's too thick. I think by day three of cereal we started doing 4 tablespoons of cereal and mixed it with an oz (or a little more) of BM. He loves it! I think he likes the oatmeal more than the purees.
After about 2 weeks (a little less) we started purees. We've done beans (hated them), sweet potatoes (loved them), pears (loved them), peas (hated them). I think maybe tomorrow we'll do something different. Maybe peaches?
When we give him a puree we usually do it around 11 or 12 and then give him oatmeal around 5 or 6.
We never did rice cereal with my two older children; we went straight to sweet potatoes, then avocado. I introduced those foods at around 6 months, but only every other day or so. My DD didn't start eating a regular meal daily until she was about 8 months old. At about a year, she started eating two to three meals of solids a day.
Neither oatmeal (the way its prepared in baby food) or rice provide any nutritional value so there is no reason to give them other than as a filler and for "practice" eating. We never did purees so there was no need to practice eating that way.
we never did cereals, pedis here say to avoid it unless your baby is underweight
we went straigth to the purees, DS has had, apples, pears, bananas, plums and carrots
we do 1 feeding a day but think of starting 2 times a day on monday
