Website Critique (NBR)

Well Ladies, after being laid off I needed a little project so I decided to start making dog collars. Something my Mom and I got together on and worked out. If you have a minute could you have a peek at my website and let me know what you think? Any changes, comments, suggestions are appreciated. The only thing I still need to figure out is how to put in automatic shipping prices, and I am working on that with the host company.

Re: Website Critique (NBR)

  • This looks great!  I think you want semi-colons rather than commas in many places for the "If you live in...." sections on the left.  I love the choices--the ladybug one is so cute.
  • Loading the player...
  • Looks good!  I would think about  your menu up top though, and instead of having the products listed individually, do one tab that is titled Products.  Then within that tab, have a drop-down that has the different sizes and the coming soon tab incorporated within that.  It will make the page look cleaner and more professionally done.

Also, consider re-naming the info tab to FAQ.  I think Info next to About Us sounds redundant.

Have you thought about getting a few dogs together to model the collars?  I think that would go a long way in presentation.

  • I'm an editor, so more from the grammar angle...

You have a lot of comma splices -- in these instances, the comma should be changed to a semicolon or you can make the text after the comma its own sentence.

    On the homepage:

Para 2: Comma before "we use..."

    Para 3: Comma before "buckle..."

    Para 5: Comma before "available..."

Also, in the fourth paragraph, I'd be "are" before "available."

The site looks good -- I always catch the nitpicky grammar stuff. Good luck with the business!

  • Maybe to supplement the site, consider becoming a seller on Etsy? I know that when Im looking for handmade items, thats the first place I'd go to look.... I *think* you can also link your site to your etsy shop? But I might be wrong about that...
  • Thank you for all your advice!

I will play with the drop down menus and try that, I do have a couple more products that will be added so I can see how it would keep it looking cleaner. And I will change the Info to FAQ the website came as a template and I've been changing everything as I go so that I can do. As for the canine models I have 5 of my own that I can use but I wasn't sure if that would be a good idea or not (using just my own.) As the weather gets nicer (and the snow melts and the grass gets greener) I was thinking of inviting some friends and their dogs over to do some photos in collars. I have sold some already so I am hoping to get some photos of happy client dogs in their new collars for a page.

Obviously punctuation and editing is not my strong point Embarrassed so I have an aunt that is a teacher who will be going through my website with the password to edit all of my screw ups. Thank you for pointing them out though I really do appreciate it.

And the Etsy store will be next, I started out making the collars (to be sure I could) then did a FB page, website, and next will be Etsy Smile
