Is there such a thing as too much pee?

My son is a heavy wetter. Like, a HEAVY wetter. Is there ever a problem with too much urine output? If so, how much is too much?

Re: Is there such a thing as too much pee?

  • Hmmm. I don't think so. Mine pees a lot too! I think that just means he is well hydrated?

  • Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it.  I would worry if he didn't pee ENOUGH.  Dominic pees a whole lot and that seems pretty normal to me. And by alot I mean A LOTTTTT!!
  • I don't think so but it couldn't hurt to bring it up at your next appt. if you're concerned. I suppose there could be a bladder issue but I really doubt it. Like PP said, he's probably just well-hydrated!

This is what I'd say too.

If you're LO is constantly leaking out of their diapers, you should look into the diaper inserts.

  • Bring it up.

From something my dr. said I think it can be a sign of diabetes, but DS was a really heavy wetter and still wasn't a heavy enough wetter to worry about diabetes. So your son would have to be a megaheavy wetter before you need to be concerned, but definitely mention it.

  • I'm sure it is nothing, but excessive urination is a sign of diabetes. Other symptoms are excessive thirst and fatigue (you can't have one without the other two). Just bring it up with your pedi, it never hurts to be too cautious!
  • Thanks ladies. I will bring it up at his next appointment, but I'm not going to stress too much about it. We CD, and if we use the thicker inserts (and double up at night) he usually does okay, maybe one leak per week if I'm diligent about diaper changes. I don't think that's enough to be concerned about immediately anyway.

    Thanks!
