Handmade gift ideas needed for DD's birthmom

Any suggestions on something we could make for DD's birthmom?  We're going to see her in a couple weeks.  I would love to make something with Zoe -- could be painting, something with paper, something Spring-ish or Easter-ish...not sure.

Re: Handmade gift ideas needed for DD's birthmom

  • I just framed a painting a young pediatric patient did and it's lovely!

If Z's birthmom has the space for such things, I bet she'd love it.

I just realized how silly I sounded giving painting advice to ArtTeacher! :)

  • No, no, not silly at all!!!

I am just feeling unsure of what to do!  I think framing a painting she did would be great.

At Christmas we painted little hearts and I made a magnet out of them for her birthmom.  I've sent her a crayon drawing, too.  Just want to make something else for her since Zoe is so into drawing right now - she loves crayons.

  • Find out if there is a pottery place in your area. We did a bowl (you could do a mug, plate, vase, just about anything) with hand/foot prints of the kids on the inside and outside.  We filled the bowl last year with candies and pictures of the kids.

Also there are little framed kits are target, walmart etc... that you can but put hand and or foot prints on!

i have a really neat necklace that i made out of a pendant they made in her old school where they took clay (i assume; looks like clay), put a thumbprint in it, pressed letters into it with her initials, and then glazed and fired with a little metal loop in it.

Love that idea...that would be neat to try.  Thanks!

We already gave her one of the framed kits with the handprints/footprints, but I hadn't thought of the pottery place idea.  There's one not too far from our house -- maybe we could do that.  Thanks!

  • This won't hold up over time, but I saw this a few years ago and thought it was a cute idea.

  • We ended up making a painting for dd's birthmom.  It was very abstract :)  Then I bought a bright purple frame (her birthmom's favorite color) and framed it in that with a mat.  It looked really nice -- I also dated it and put Zoe's name in the corner of the mat. She really liked it when she opened it.

Thanks for all of the ideas!
