Hi everyone
I don't post often, but I was wondering if anyone else is dealing with this..My son has a flat spot across the back of his head- in looking as pictures it appears that it is bradycephaly...we are going for a consult for a helmet on Wednesday. I am a pediatric occupational therapist and I am well aware of the importance of positioning and tummy time, however it did not work for my son since the time he spends sleeping on his back counteracted all of my efforts.
Is anyone else dealing with this?
(On top of this he has a tongue tie that has to be corrected with laser surgery in June and we're waiting to hear back about his food allergy test results...this has been some week!)
Re: STARband helmet
We did not use the STARband "brand" of helmet, but DD has a shaping helmet. She's had it on since the middle of February and we've seen amazing improvement so far. She had plagiocephaly with a flat spot on the left side of her head. This was due to her torticollis (which I'm sure you know all about). The worst part was getting her fitted for it - she did not like that process at all...but really - she doesn't mind wearing it at all. Her measurements put her in the high side of "moderate"/low side of "severe."
I have to say - it's totally been worth it to get the helmet and I really wouldn't think twice about doing it. Cost for us was actually paid by insurance, but would have cost us $1500 if they didn't cover it.
Good luck!
My 3 month old was just fitted for his DOC Band helmet this wednesday. Today will be his first full day (23 hours) wearing it. He has plagiocephaly (flat on the right side of the back of his head) and torticollis. We do the therapy at home (and day care does it too). They estimate that, because of his age, he will only need it for 4-6 weeks. Our insurance didn't cover it so we are unfortunately down $3500.
DS doesn't mind it at all really.
Just last night I began the process of decorating with a pirate map theme! So far I just painted it a sandy color and I'm waiting for the stickers to come in the mail.
