Not sure.. I assume anytime? I know when DD was measuring large they said if she didnt show early in week 39 theyd talk induction..She showed up the day I was supposed to go in for my OB appt at 36.6 two weeks prior no L&D discussion was brought up.
I've been talking to my OB about it since my first appointment - but I want a VBAC (which he asked right off the bat), and I'm terrified of a bad epidural experience (I had a not so great one with my DS), so those are things I like to talk about fairly frequently with him.

This has been my experience too. I very much want a VBAC & my midwife asked me about it at the 1st appt before I even had a chance to bring it up. We have been talking L&D ever since!
My midwife told me not to worry about it yet when I first asked her. She said she likes to keep things fluid. If you start getting obsessive and detailed about a birth plan, it's just going to add stress when things don't go perfect. She said we'll hash out the major issues closer to date and to just enjoy being pregnant right now.

Being high risk, it was something that came up fairly early. I plan on having a repeat C/S. When it happens will depend on how my gestational diabetes is controlled.
I'm planning to discuss the details (and my birth plan) at my 36 weeks appointment, but I've asked a few questions at every appointment as I thought of them. Some about the birth, some about things like circumcision.
Write down questions as you think of them and ask them as you go. If you've got a doctor with a very different philosophy than yours, you want to know so you can get out now.
And no, my birth plan doesn't mean I think I can control every detail. It means I giveashit and want my opinions known and easily accessible to anyone that will be part of my birth.
I asked my ob at my last appointment and she said they dont start discussing birth plans until 36 weeks. i assume every practitioner is different though.
