Two Under 2

Do you have a cleaning lady?

I cracked last month.  After cooking, picking up after the kids, bathing, lack of sleep...the last thing I want to do is scrub the bathroom and mop.  We decided to pay my MIL to clean every other week.  We pay her $50.  I LOVE it.  It is such a huge weight lifted.  Just wondering how many others have hired someone to help around the house.

  • No we don't have a cleaning lady... I'm sure it's nice though!  I could never have my mother come clean (she likes to do things "her" way) and that would just be bad :)... awesome for you though, enjoy the rest!

  • We have one and it was the best decision we have made! I just didnt have time to keep up with it all.

  • DH mentioned getting one once I go back to work.  We'll see... I'm sure it's great.

  • We've been talking about getting one. My neighbor recently interviewed one and she said she wanted $20 an hour to clean, which I guess is the norm in this area.  I'd be bitter about spending that much, so I'm still the cleaning lady.

  • Not currently but I will be getting one.  My husband is deploying for 7 months mid-May and I will have someone to clean every other week while he is gone.

  • I would love a cleaning lady...But I just can't justify the cost.  I just keep thinking of all the things I could buy with the money.

  • We do.  Two ladies come every other week and clean - they change sheets and do laundry.  We pay $90, but I think it is worth every penny!  I love when they come Smile

  • YES! They come every other week and it is well worth it to us. DH fell in love with our current house and I told him there was no way I was moving unless I had some help to clean, there is just way too much to do and I'm not about to spend that much time cleaning 6 bathrooms and everything else. DH actually wanted to get a cleaning lady because his parents have one and he thought it would be nice for me not to have to worry about it. It's great :)

We don't, but I've been lobbying for one really hard for a while.  Hopefully soon some things in our budget/income will shake out so that we can start.

  • Yes.  When I was single and working FT, I had one.  When DH was single and working FT, he had one.  We had one after we got married and until Jackson arrived - Then I took over the responsibility.  With two 'under one', I don't have time for cleaning - We have housekeepers again!  They come every other week and we pay $40 each time.

    WELL worth it.

  • We don't have a cleaning lady but we have an awesome Nanny.

When she was hired she knew light household cleaning and the girls' laundry was part of the job. She might not scrub baseboards but she will wipe down bathrooms, do dishes, sweep, scrub floors, vacuum and such. It is nice to come home everyday to a clean house. It saves so much time not to have to do all the little toy pick ups and their clothes. The nanny usually has a couple hours of not dealing with kids while one is in preschool and the other napping so she wants to stay busy and goes to town on our house! If I knew she'd never leave us, I'd have 4 more!

  • We do. It is the best money we spend. The house would be a disaster without her. Instead it is neat clean and dusted. I would have to quit my job to keep up with the house otherwise or I would have no time to spend with DD. Now if I could only find a cook....
  • No, we don't but I wish we did! I'm a SAHM though so I have a lot more time for cleaning than someone who works FT.

  • We  do. Had  one  since  I  was pregnant  with the first. she  comes  every  two weeks and  even after  trimming  our  spending we  both decided she  is  invaluable  to  us. It  saves  a few  arguments  between  us.  I  rather  give  up  coach  purses and  fancy  dinners to  be  able  to  keep  her.
  • Yes, we have a nanny/housekeeper who comes a couple times a week.  She spends half the time with one or both babies, and the other half cleaning.  We hired her when DD2 was about two months old. When she is here, I get to go to the gym, or to spend alone time with one of the girls while she watches the other.  I can also run out and do those pesky errands that take three times as long when I take the kids.  It's really helpful.  And because she also cleans, the house is not a sty, which helps keep my stress level down.  She basically does the kitchens and bathrooms and occasionally a general sweeping and dusting.  I still do the laundry and I can barely keep up with that.

Where we live, household help is very affordable.  I feel a little bit guilty about it because I know there are so many other mamas of 2u2, or of 3 or 4 or 5, etc, who do everything with no help.  Hats off to them.  Our lady helps keep me sane.
